The Zalman ZM-NC3000U is a very nice accessory. Adding additional cooling is always a good thing, but when you throw in the added ergonomic benefit, it becomes much more appealing. The ability to use the cooler without any additional power source is a big bonus, as well as supporting everything from a 9" netbook all the way up to a 17" desktop replacement.
EVGA recently announced that they have begun to sell their NVIDIA GeForce GTX 400 Series High-Flow Video Card Exhaust Bracket that is said to lower GPU temperatures by up to 5C. Lowering your video card temperatures by up to 5C for under $10 doesn't sound like a bad idea. All you need to do is remove a few screws and the bracket can be switched out quickly without having to worry about voiding the cards warranty. The question that we have to figure out is if the NVIDIA reference design exhaust bracket really that restrictive?

The Noctua NH-C14 is a big heatsink for sure, but remarkably by orienting the fans and aluminum fin stack in a top-down direction, Noctua keep the heatsinks' height to just 130mm. That's a far cry more compact than your typical 160mm tall tower heatsink, but that hasn't made the NH-C14 into a slouch. Where Frostytech's Intel LGA775/1156 thermal test platform is concerned, the Noctua NH-C14 heatsink leads the Top 5 Heatsinks Chart. The competition is a little stiffer on the AMD front with the NH-C14 trailing the front runner by about 2.2°C.

Im November 2002 gegründet, hat sich der japanische Kühlerspezialist Scythe mit zahlreichen passiven oder besonders leisen CPU-Kühlern in der Szene einen Namen gemacht. Inzwischen umfasst das Portfolio beileibe nicht wie zu Anfangszeiten nur CPU-Kühler, es reicht von Audio- und PC-Zubehör über Kühler für CPUs, GPUs und HDDs bis hin zu Netzteilen und PC-Gehäusen. Den Einstand markierten für den leisen und passiven Betrieb gedachte Kühler wie der Kamakaze, die legendären NCU-2005 oder Shogun, die mit der Heatlane-Technologie aufwarten konnten. Dem Ziel ist Scythe seitdem treu geblieben, auch wenn der Wechsel zu Heatpipes auch bedeutete, dass etwas Exklusivität aufgegeben wurde. Mit dem Scythe Ninja folgte 2005 ein neuer Star am Passivhimmel - dieser war zwar schon ab Rev. B mit einem Lüfter ausgeliefert worden, doch auch die aktuelle, 2010 erschienene Version Ninja 3 eignet sich noch für einen besonders leisen semi-passiv Betrieb. Und genau das möchte ich in diesem Test ausprobieren.
