I've said before that since the coolers included with retail CPUs are both quiet and effective at stock clock speeds, overclocking is the only reason anyone should buy a third party CPU cooler. Well, this isn't strictly true: not all third party CPU coolers are designed to handle ultra-high overclocks in massive tower systems; sometimes, what you need is a cooler that is more effective than the retail cooler in specific situations, such as the tight confines of a micro-ATX or HTPC case. When airflow's at a premium, a properly designed cooler that can fit into a tight space can be a big help. Benchmark Reviews looks at Cooler Master's new GeminII S524 cooler, which is designed for just such applications.

On the original, the idea was to use optional mounting to be able to add a second 120mm fan. This fans sole purpose was to cool whatever was under it, as the fins of the cooler weren't under the additional fan. This time around the idea is similar, but the way the same idea gets carried out is completely different. This time around there are fins under the fan, and the cooler still keeps RAM or motherboard component cooling in mind. The basic idea here was to still offer both under one roof, or cooler as this may be, and not need the additional fan.

With the recent attention shift to closed loop CPU water cooling, air coolers are starting to move out of the limelight. But, the fact is, good air coolers still offer features that water coolers are not able to. That is exactly what Cooler Master has done with their newest CPU air cooler, the GeminII S524. Rather then compete directly with the new behemoth coolers, the GeminII shifts its focus from simply cooling the CPU to also cooling nearby components. Read on to find out if that will be enough to keep the competition at bay.

Usually when a CPU cooler is reviewed here at the Shrimps we are talking about high end big and bulky models. Dual towers, triple fan equipped, the bigger the better. But what about for them that are building a high performance HTPC or eg a mini cube ? Do they have to rely solely on the included boxed coolers ? I had the privilege to build a Mine LAN PC inside a Lian Li V353 Cube shaped case. Most important factor was the build's size, not at the cost of performance. The choice of components was pretty high end : Asus Maximus IV Gene, Intel 2600K, 16Gb of Corsair ram, 120 Corsair GT SSD and a Nvidia GTX560 GPU. More than suitable for casual gaming purposes. After the build was completed, we noticed, during stability testing, that the CPU got pretty hot. And it was still running at out of the box speeds. Time to look for a beefier cooling solution Our eye fell onto Cooler Masters' latest low profile CPU cooler : The GeminII M4 CPU cooler.

My latest CPU cooler reviews is the Cooler Master GeminII M4, a new low profile cooler. It’s a squat, copper heatpipe sporting, many aluminium finned heatsink fan combo that thanks to its unique shape could cause clearance issues; it’s going to be an interesting review.

Home Theater Personal Computer, kurz HTPC, sind nach wie vor in aller Munde. Cooler Master, schon unlängst bekannt als Zulieferer diverser Komponenten eines Rechners, hat einen Hyper Gemin II SF524 genannten Kühler im Portfolio, welcher gerade diese Aspekte erfüllen soll. Ob der CPU-Kühler auch hitzköpfige Komponenten auf Temperatur halten kann und wie es mit der Lautstärke aussieht, klären wir in diesem Test.
