Today we are testing the Thermalright Macho, an enormous CPU cooler with six heatpipes and one 140 mm fan. Check it out!

If you're overclocking your CPU, you're going to need a better cooler than the one that shipped with your CPU. There are many aftermarket alternatives, but enthusiasts know that Thermalright's products should always be on their short list. The problem is the high-performance coolers can cost quite a lot, with prices of more than $75 for top-end air coolers and well over $100 for good all-in-one water coolers. Thermalright tries to address this problem with the Macho HR02 cooler, which they pitch as their "mainstream enthusiast" product. At an MSRP of $39.95, it comes in well under most high performance coolers, but will its performance match theirs? Benchmark Reviews puts this product to the test.

The very recently launched Macho HR-02 CPU Air Cooler is actually an TY-140 140mm PWM silent fan bundled with the already excellent, yet somewhat bulky standalone HR-02 passive CPU Cooler by Thermalright which also passed from our test bench almost a year ago.

Thermalright's products have never been reviewed by eTeknix before. I am quite excited to get started with Thermalright products as they are one of the most recognised CPU cooler brands for high performance air cooling alongside Noctua and Phanteks.
Thermalright only operate in the performance segment of the market and the majority of the CPU coolers are what you might call enthusiast class - even the smaller form factor ones. They are certainly not beginners having been in the industry since 2001 and their claim to historical fame is they were the first company to start manufacturing copper based CPU coolers all the way back in 2001 whilst everyone else was still stuck on aluminium designs.

The focus of today's review is the Macho Rev.A(BW) a chunky tower cooler which looks to balance price and performance. With support for Intel and AMD sockets we will be pushing our i7 to 5.0GHz to see how the Macho handles extreme conditions.

Thermalright has continued their success with the Shaman. This oversized aftermarket cooler has taken the performance charts by storm and easily claimed the top spot in our VGA testing and it is evident that Thermalright's Shaman is aimed directly at power hungry that produce equal amounts of heat.

The Thermalright Shaman is made mostly of aluminum with its fifty-five fins. This cooler is large, with dimensions of 160mm long. It isn't that long, but with the 132mm in width and 54.5mm of thickness, this four slot cooler is going to need a lot of room to house it. Along with the mass of aluminum, there are the eight, yes eight, 6mm heat pipes.
