Lately we’ve been taking a look at CPU coolers for larger ATX setups in more traditional cases but with the recent Lunchbox build it is clear that the little guys need some attention. To that end we will be taking a look at the AXP-100 cooler from Thermalright and designed for ITX systems. We’ll be running the cooler through the same battery of tests as the rest of our coolers to see its performance against the big boys. Unfair for sure but as we have seen, ITX builds aren’t just for media centers anymore.
The Thermalright AXP-100 is a low profile CPU cooler aimed at SFF (small form factor) computers and HTPCs. It has six heatpipes and a 100 mm fan, and is only 2.28 inches (58 mm) tall. Let's see if it is a good option.

Well CES is once again over and all that really remains is to see just how many of the prototypes presented there will actually make it to manufacture at least without serious compromises (either in features, performance or quality). Thermalright addresses a key issue of picking a cooler for an HTPC by taking their expertise in heatsink design and developing an enthusiast grade CPU cooler that can fit in to an HTPC case. The AXP-140 heatpipe CPU cooler would make a great cooler for just about any system, but because it is only 70.2mm high it is just the thing for keeping an HTPC running cool and quiet.
