Aftermarket cooling solutions have really stabilized over the past couple years, no longer are we seeing strange and exotic designs, and the solid blocks we find with our retail processors are the only remnants of that past technology.

An amalgamation of both old and new is present in Noctua’s latest offering to the processor cooling sector. Building on previous successes, namely the NH-U12P, the NH-D14 is characterised by two fin stacks and a dual-fan cooling configuration.
The new, seen with the inclusion of the of Noctua's largest fan to date: the 140mm NF-P14 FLX construction slotted between the independent fin stacks is combined with elements from past coolers by the thermal solutions manufacturer. The heatsink bares similarities to the NH-U12P in terms of the fin spacing and heatpipe layout whilst the push-pull fan design can be attributed to the SE1366 version of the same cooler.

Today we take a look at Prolimatech's latest heatsink creation. The Prolimatech Armageddon is a compromise from Prolimatech's all-out Megahalems with the Armageddon taking up much less room without compromising performance. Between the flexibility of using 120mm or 140mm fans and the easy to use mounting mechanism, the Armageddon may just be the heatsink for you.

We tested a new revision of Cooler Master Hyper TX3 CPU cooler, with three heatpipes and a tower heatsink with a 92-mm fan. Will it overperform the older version? Check it out.

Today we are looking at the premium Thermaltake solution called the ‘Frio‘ – a dual fan universal heatsink capable of cooling multi core processors with a power output of 220w. After our glowing review of the excellent Contact 29 we have high hopes that this cooler will really deliver the goods. The fact the cooler is around £30 less than the Noctua NH D14 should get you interested.

It isn't often that you see innovation in PC fans. Other than the occasional oddball sizes, fans are generally standardized in design. Seemingly answering the call, Sharkoon has created the Silent Eagle series of PC fans. Sharkoon has applied some clever ideas to their fans in hopes to differentiate them from the others on the market as well as increase performance. Today, HardwareLogic has the Silent Eagle 80mm and 120mm models up for review in order to determine if the innovation equals improvement.

Looking for a new heatsink for that noisy overheating PC under your desk? Akasa's Venom Nano heatsink stands 150mm tall, weighs 560 grams and installs onto AMD socket AM2/AM3 and Intel socket 775/1156/1366 processors. Off the cuff though, it seems a little 'modest' for Intel Core i7 use, dito for AMD Black Edition chips. The Venom Nano seems better suited to mainstream processors as it offers a good range of quiet operation and ease of installation.

Equipped with an 80mm 'SilenX Effizio Series Quiet Fan', the SilenX EFZ-80HA2 heatsink makes for one compact little cooler, a heatsink small enough to use in a Media PC or compact computer enclosure. The heatsink is all but tiny compared to many of today's tower heatsinks, which is good because there aren't that many small CPU coolers to choose from anymore. Most remarkably though, the EFZ-80HA2 uses only two 6mm diameter copper heatpipes!
