The CPU cooler is probably one of the most important parts of your system, and a lot of people just deal with the stock cooler. A cool CPU is a happy CPU, but most decent coolers are large and they just won't fit in all cases, especially if you want to use a microATX case or maybe an HTPC case. A small cooler is what you need, and the one I have today might be perfect for a situation where a small but good performing CPU cooler is needed. It's from Silenx and it's called the Effizio EFZ-80HA2 Compact CPU Cooler. So read on to learn more about it and see how it performs...

Although the traditional tower type CPU Air Coolers have reached their maximum possible cooling potential based on today’s technology that doesn't mean manufacturers are just going to give up in their pursue for something better. Obviously that's always a good thing for consumers around the world especially since competition always results in even better products and lower prices but one has to wonder how long it will be before manufacturers come up with new and innovative ways of cooling. That being said for the majority of consumers even low/mid-end CPU Air Coolers are more than enough to keep their systems running at good temperatures while for the most demanding ones there are always higher performance complete water cooling kits available in the market. However there are also some CPU Air Coolers capable of meetings the demands of even the most demanding users around and according to Deepcool the Lucifer is amongst them.

I have seen just about every variation on materials, angles, bling and fans in what is readily available on the market in notebook cooling products. From the days of a beanbag strapped to a piece of wood, set on your lap, just to keep the heat away, cooling tech has come a long way. The frame materials are either a choice of aesthetic appeal, or you go with plastic due to budgetary reasons. Either way is no better than the other, as long as the frame is sturdy and vibration free. The lighting and hocus pocus that sells some coolers, doesn't need apply really. For the down to basics idea of "cooling" the laptop, "bling" does very little to cool anything. So essentially it all comes down to the fan or fans in the unit that are going to make the biggest difference in any notebook cooler.

Deepcool's Ice Matrix 600 heatsink is a relatively flat profile tower cooler that stands 165mm tall, 70mm deep. It weighs upwards of 1100grams and is built with no fewer than six, U-shaped 6mm diameter copper heatpipes that wind their way from the copper base plate to the top of the 103mm tall aluminum fin stack. The heatpipes are lined up in a single row so closely that they almost span the entire 141mm width of the heatsink!

Today were taking a look at the Hoplite ST chassis from Enermax. We managed to get hold of the white edition of the chassis for the review and priced at around £70 it's set nicely between the mid budget and premium build chassis in terms of cost. So I'm expecting a decent level of build quality, features and performance from this chassis as £70 is still a lot of money.

Spire's Gemini SP986B1-V2-2P heatsink is a minor variation on the popular Eclipse II tower heatsink design, the most notable difference being a novel bifurcated fin stack. To 'bifurcate' means to split into two... so in other words, the fin stack is split down the middle and the fin edges are closed off so air can only pass through the heatsink from front-to-back. This unique 'ducting' approach essentially creates two independent fin towers connected by six, 6mm diameter U-shaped sintered metal wick copper heatpipes.
