Da sind wir auf den GELID Wing 12PL Lüfter gestoßen.
Remember when UV first became popular? I must have spent my entire McDonald's salary tricking out my case with every UV light I could get my hands on. My PC glowed like a street racer. It was in its own movie. I eventually moved out of the UV phase and into the LED era, where I remain even today. It seems a little more conserved to me. But UV is still popular, and today's review is living proof. But this fan is much more than just a glow recipient.
For a gaming or other performance system I'd have no trouble recommending this product, I also feel it would also be perfect for a two/three fan push-pull setup on a performance heatsink where the fan speed needs to be fine-tuned. I would however find quite hard to recommend these fans for a purpose built quiet system as you would have to use the included fan controllers on every one to get it down to a suitable volume level, this would be messy and often impractical. That being said these fans do offer a good airflow to noise performance and should be ideal for most users.
Gelid's most recent 'claim to fame' in the CPU cooling market was back in 2009 via the appealing and low noise orientated Tranquillo. The Tranquillo offered good CPU cooling performance while keeping noise output to the bare minimum thanks to the use of a quiet fan. Gelid's Tranquillo was very popular in the budget and home user market especially at the price tag of around £25 which we have more recently become accustomed to. Today we will be looking at an update of the original Tranquillo CPU cooler by Gelid, the Gelid Tranquillo Rev. 2.
The Gelid Tranquillo heatsink stands 153mm tall and ships with a single 120mm PWM fan mounted. The tower-style heatsink weighs 645 grams and is compatible with Intel socket 775/1156/1366 and AMD socket 754/939/940/AM2+/AM3 processors. While you might expect the Tranquillo to be an exposed base heatpipe heatsink, it is not. Instead the four copper heatpipes are grouped closely at the base on a small copper heatspreader, and also grouped relatively closely to one another where they pass through raw aluminum cooling fins.

Denn wer will schon einen ungezähmten, brüllenden Löwen unter dem Schreibtisch haben, wenn Routinearbeiten oder zeitweilig auch mal ein paar Spielrunden vom Rechenknecht zu verdauen sind. Da haben wir es doch lieber, wenn sich der Löwe akustisch wie ein schnurrendes Kätzchen aufführt - und gerade dieses will GELID mit ihrem erschwinglichen Tranquillo-Kühler auch für aktuelle Prozessoren leisten. Wir wollen uns das Ergebnis der Entwicklungsarbeit dieser von Hong Kong aus agierenden und in China produzierenden Kühltechnikfirma heute einmal näher anschauen!
Gelid has a worthy product in the Tranquillo, especially for a relatively new company. The Tranquillo easily bests the performance of the OEM cooler while being noticeably quieter, even at full speed. The design doesn't provide any board-cooling options though, but is relatively easy to install.
Today we are going to test Tranquillo from Gelid, a CPU cooler with a tower design, four U-shape heatpipes, one 120-mm fan and focused on silence. This cooler has identical specs to Noctua NH-U12P, Thermaltake ISGC-300 and 3R System iCEAGE Prima Boss, which we have already tested and have performed nicely. Will Tranquillo perform well too?
