In 2009, the NF-S12B series was announced as the 2nd generation of NF-S12 series. As expected, it was better than 1st generation NF-S12 and silent PC enthusiasts were crazy about it. 1st and 2nd generations of Noctua NF-S12 have received a stunning 250 awards for all these years.

A few years ago a friend of mine brought his computer over to my house, needed some work and parts and when he turned it on it sounded like a small airplane taking off. You could hear this thing on the second floor of my house, that’s how loud it was. That was ridiculous in my opinion, you don’t need noisy and loud fans to have a cool system. Personally I must have a quiet system, but I don’t sacrifice performance for low noise levels. Noctua is one of the top companies when it comes to keeping your computer cool, they’re always innovating and improving on their designs and they’ve sent me over their latest 120mm cooling fan for review, the NF-S12A PWM. This fan is 120mm in size and has a maximum speed of 1200rpm, but you can use the included adapter to lower the speed to only 900rpm. I’ve put the NF-S12A up against another Noctua fan that runs much faster at 1500rpm, and I was surprised by the results and I think you might be too. Read on to learn more…

Noctua's premium range of fans is vast and we have looked at many of their fans, you can see our reviews below. They produce fans that cater for cases, heatsinks and radiators in a variety of sizes and speeds to suit almost every need. Most importantly though is that they all live up to the same high quality standards, feature silent operation, an extensive bundle and long warranties with excellent customer service.

The Noctua NF-S12A FLX, PWM, ULN Fans are outstanding and will fit the bill no matter what case cooling application you have. The FLX is a flexible fan for most applications. PWM stands for pulse width modulation and this fan has a 4pin connector. ULN stands for ultra low noise and it's near silent. All these fans perform well, are reliable & quiet.

APH Networks reviews the latest in Noctua's case cooling solution. Is it still the best in the market today?

If you’ve ever built your own system you know that you need good fans and one such company that makes them is Noctua as if you’re an enthusiast you know this. If you’re looking for quiet and reliable fans that are on the cutting edge of cooling technology, then you go with Noctua plain and simple. Today for review I have one of the latest fans from Noctua, the NF-S12A FLX, the FLX means Flex or flexible meaning that you can control the fan speed and it gives you three choices 1200rpm, 900rpm or 700rpm depending on what your uses are for the fan. These make a great choice for either CPU air cooling, liquid cooling or even just case cooling. Read on to learn more…

Noctua's S12A 120mm fans is the 3rd generation Signature series line designed for case ventilation. The Noctua S12A is available in three versions: PWM, FLX and ULN. Both the FLX and PWM versions run at a maximum of 1200 RPM with an airflow rating of 107.5 m3/h while the ULN version runs at a lower 800 RPM with an airflow rating of 74.3 m3/h. Unlike the 2nd generation S12 series fan, the new S12A series are equipped with anti-stall knobs that reduce flow separation in medium to high impedance situations, increasing the fan’s versatility. Also part of Noctua’s Advanced Acoustical Optimization design are the inner surface microstructures as well as the stepped inlet design which improves airflow and minimizes noise during operation. All three Noctua S12A 120mm fans use Noctua's SSO2 bearings with a MTBF of 150,000 hours and carry a 6-year warranty.

To conclude the Noctua trio of fans, we have the smallest of the three – the NF-R8. With both the 120mm and 92mm versions proving to be right up there at the top of the market, the NF-R8, featuring the same technology, seems sure to follow in the footsteps and achieve some great cooling results. Let’s have a look…

Case fans used to all be a standard size and to a large extent exactly the same from whichever manufacturer you purchased it from. This size was of course the 80mm fan which is still the dominant size in today's market, but with a much smaller share. As you are probably aware fan sizes have increased dramatically and the fan we are looking at today is a whopping 140mm fan, nearly twice the diameter of its predecessors.

With the continued flux of PC cooling companies on to the international scene, reputation is key and perhaps it is this, Noctua’s seemingly legendary status as a premium quality cooling Solutions Company that has held them at the forefront of the market for several years since its establishment in 2005. Formed through the merger of Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H and the Taiwanese Kolink International Corporation, Noctua has focused predominately on the cooling of the central processing unit with an array of aluminium heatsinks and fans symbolised by their peach and brown colour schemes.
