For all that big tower coolers and closed loop liquid coolers have their uses, there is also a significant market out there for compact, low noise models. Noctua are looking to fill that gap with the NH-L9i which aims to be a replacement for the stock Intel model, or an ideal product for SFF and HTPC use.

It's that time of year again and were pretty sure many of you will have left that all important Christmas gift shopping right up until the last moment! So we thought that we might lend a hand to our followers and fans and since your already on eTeknix, we thought its best we share what we think are some of this years best products.

Noctua is company known for high quality and excellent performing CPU coolers and fans. It’s safe to say that most of their product line is aimed at the high end user who wants to push their system or CPU to the limits. Enthusiasts, or overclockers they would be called, and that’s all fine and good if you’re that type of person, Noctua certainly has a cooler for you that will keep your CPU cool even under overclocked conditions. What happens if you’re not one of those types of people? What about those who really don’t care much about overclocking, or those that much prefer an SFF or HTPC style system? Your choices are pretty limited when it comes to choosing a CPU cooler that is quiet and yet performs well and one that’s high quality. Noctua has a solution for you now, they’ve ventured into making coolers made for more cramped systems, and they’ve brought all of their knowledge and skills from making enthusiast style coolers to do this so you can expect a top-notch product . They’ve come out with two of these coolers, one of which I have for review today called the NH-L9i, where the ‘I’ in the name stands for Intel, the other cooler is the NH-L9a which is for AMD CPUs specifically. So I have the NH-L9i for review and I’ve put it up against a larger Noctua cooler for comparison as I was curious to see how well this tiny cooler would perform. So Read on…

The Noctua L9 coolers may be small in size but they are excellent for their primary purpose of silence and issue-free clearance. Quality and design is typical Noctua, engineered with precision and of impeccable caliber.

As many of you have noticed things are somewhat slow lately in everything related to PC cooling but considering most solutions we do get to see are very similar in design, size and performance this is not really surprising (nor bad really). On top of that add that we have entered the winter season and i doubt we will see anything really interesting at least for another couple of months or so (although CES is just around the corner so we may see something new announced there). Regardless of that however from time to time we do get to witness the release of unique (or dedicated as I like to call them) CPU Coolers aimed specifically at one of the various market segments (enthusiasts, overclockers, casual users, gamers, HTPC users) just like the latest NH-L9 L-Type low-profile cooler line by Noctua which is clearly aimed for HTPC use.
