Impressive. But did you catch the dimensions at the beginning? 160mm. That’s 6.29 inches sticking out from your motherboard into your case. So if you plan on getting this heatsink, you had better measure your case first.
Today we look at the new flagship cooler from Noctua, the NH-D14. Noctua had a chore on their hands improving on the old NH-U12P design and performance. The NH-D14 has a total of six heatpipes and dual radiators equipped with dual fans! With specifications like this it is no wonder that the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler is regarded as one of the premier CPU coolers on the market today, if not the best.
In this review Frostytech will be testing out Noctua's massive dual-fan NH-D14 heatsink and comparing it against 280 other heatsinks. The big NH-D14 heatsink stands as tall as a modern tower heatsink but is twice as wide. The dual-fan set up more than makes up for that bulk by proving itself to be an excellent low noise solution capable of performance cooling. This heatsink currently ranks near the top of Frostytech's Top 5 Heatsinks chart.

One of the things i happen to enjoy is testing CPU Coolers and so it really comes as no surprise that while in my previous position i was able to build the largest LGA1366 CPU Cooler database online and so naturally now i will try to accomplish the exact same thing with the latest LGA2011 socket and my brand new Intel Core i7 3930k. This list will shoot off with one of the best CPU Air Coolers in the market, namely the NH-D14 SE2011 by Noctua, the recent revision of a unit which was also featured in my LGA1366 database. Of course unlike the initial version of this cooler the SE2011 version is compatible with socket 2011 CPUs and as you will see later on it does a terrific job keeping the temperature of the 3930k at relatively low temperature levels even at 4GHz under extreme load conditions.
It has been a long time coming, but finally the king has graced us with its presence! The Noctua NH-D14 was released back on November 2nd 2009 and it has been the benchmark for high performance air coolers ever since that day. Despite that we've never actually gotten around to producing a review of this amazing cooler. So I asked Noctua if they could provide us with one and they duly delivered. With us pushing forward and testing so many CPU coolers it is easy to get lost in the mountain of numbers but what easier way to make it through than with some Noctua NH-D14 results as a signpost.
You may be thinking, this review is a bit late, isn't it kind of pointless? Well not really I'd say. Firstly we are reviewing the NH-D14 SE2011, or the "Special Edition". This was released back on November 2nd 2011 - exactly two years after the original Noctua NH-D14 came to market making it around 18 months old. The changes are minimal but it brings LGA 2011 support and some improved fans. Nonetheless the NH-D14 has never been more relevant for high performance CPU cooling and to this day it still probably outsells every other dual tower CPU cooler on the market. That said I think you'll agree that it's about time we gave the Noctua NH-D14 a thorough going over to show you why most enthusiasts regard this as the best air CPU cooler on the market. And let's face it with the NH-D14 selling by the boatload, with Noctua struggling to produce them fast enough, I wouldn't be surprised if we see it last for at least a few more years before a successor is introduced.
Furthermore if that hasn't made you excited enough then we've also opted to add a third fan, an NF-F12, and see how the NH-D14 performs under triple fan testing!
Bien que nous n'ayons rien à compenser, à la Ferme, nous aimons bien les gros radiateurs. Et aujourd'hui, on se fait une bataille de dual towers, avec le désormais classique Noctua NH-D14, et un petit nouveau signé be quiet!, le Dark Rock Pro C1. Deux gros radiateurs qui en imposent et qui pèsent, mais qui offrent surtout de très bonnes performances, dans un silence plus qu'appréciable. Enfin, sur le papier. Mais une fois sur un vrai processeur, qu'en est-il réellement ?

The $99 price tag is reasonable considering this is Noctua’s flagship product after all and is competitively priced against similar performing dual-tower coolers such as the Phanteks TC14PE and even the Cooler Master Nepton 140XL we tested in this review. Noctua’s NH-D15 has the advantage of a 6-year warranty, longer than any CPU cooler in the market which further adds to its value. For an overall impressive thermal handling capability while performing at a reasonable noise level, topped with the familiar Noctua premium quality, the NH-D15 earns the Hardware-360 approved award.
Tower CPU Coolers may have been around for roughly a decade now but dual tower CPU coolers (also known as sandwich CPU coolers) are quite new in and only count 5 years in the market (at least consumer models). Of course in these 5 years pretty much every single manufacturer has tried their luck such a solution but Noctua was the very first to do so with their massive NH-D14 back in late 2009 a CPU Cooler which is still considered as one of the best to date. Noctua did make some slight improvements on the NH-D14 in late 2011 and since they also made it compatible with the latest Intel LGA2011 socket they renamed it as the NH-D14 SE2011. Having known Noctua since the beginning however we knew that this wouldn't be their last attempt in the dual tower arena and since they just released the NH-D15 it seems that we were on the spot and what better way to celebrate than checking it out?
