Every so often a subject presents itself that, on the surface, leaves people wondering what the heck the company had in mind when they started the production line rolling. The 320 Series SSD seems to be just that as word of this SSD was leaked a few weeks back and the technology community seems to think Intel would be crazy to release this in a time of so many SATA 3 SSD releases. What the heck is Intel thinking?!?

We have posted a new article at The SSD Review which we find may benefit your readers and appreciate consideration in linking this on your site. The SSD Review is a 'solid state drive' specific site that, for the most part , reviews SSD related hardware and also jumps into RAID configurations, Beginners, Buyers and Optimization Guides for the SSD user. We also have a Windows 7 Optimization Guide that has gone viral since it was first published right beside the SSD Optimization Guide.

A few days ago we looked at the MyDigitalSSD SMART SSD which gave us a peak of what has become an ever growing mSATA SSD market. That SSD, based on the ADATA XPG SX300 architecture, is the fastest and highest capacity mSATA SSD available to date. The MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof 3 256GB SSD is the little brother of the SMART and, although it is not ‘SandForce Driven’ and is a bit lower in performance, it’s capacity and price point make it a definite contender in the mSATA market.

Patriot releases another SATA 3 SSD into the consumer arena this morning, this going by the name of the Patriot Pyro. The Pyro follows suit with the few other manufacturers that have recognized consumer apprehension over premium SSD prices and have wisely made use of a more value driven asynchronous (Async) NAND flash memory. These new ‘Async’ SSDs include the OCZ Agility, OWC Electra and Corsair Series 3, all of whom have been evaluated here.

The Samsung 840 is the first consumer drive of its kind. What makes the Samsung 840 different than any other drive that has been launched to date is the type of NAND utilized. The 840 series is equipped with Triple Level Cell (TLC) NAND. Samsung is the first to bring to market a drive featuring TLC NAND Flash Memory..

Replacing the non-Pro 840 models in their product stack and sitting just below the 840 Pro the Evo SSDs arrive in capacities of 120GB-1TB and include some rather interesting software developments. These aim to give us a boost in performance past the level we would normally expect from a SATA3 so today we take the 1TB model for a spin, comparing it in real world and synthetic tests to the direct competitor Crucials 960GB M500 as well as a selection of other current generation models.

In reviewing the Samsung SSD SM825 Data Center Edition 400GB eMLC solid state drive, we understand that we have wandered off the beaten path of normal consumer reviews but there are some things in this SSD that will just grab your attention. Although it’s interesting to see that Samsung has chosen its own premium eMLC NAND flash memory in the SM825, we believe that it is the total write endurance that truly stands out in this enterprise class SSD.

Ah, the holiday season is coming to a close. The gifts have been bought and distributed, and you find yourself with extra cash leftover. You want to put this money towards upgrading your computer, but cannot decide what to upgrade. My answer to this conundrum, as it is for many others, is to invest in a solid state drive. As chance may have it, in fact, our report today will focus on the newly released Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Hybrid SSD which just might be a great place to start.

We don’t find the opportunity to review as many SATA 2 SSDs these days which is why this particular report is a bit unique. We are reviewing the Silicon Power Velox V20 60GB SATA2 SSD and this solid state drive contains Hynix NAND flash memory, a brand that we have yet to see in other SSDs reviewed. The Silicon Power Website is also an interesting read as their web designer has created a ‘Review Site‘ atmosphere laying out the characteristics and test results of the Velox V20.
