Today we are looking at the new product from ADATA – the DashDrive Air AE400. The AE400 can interact with your PC and mobile devices to stream data from SD memory cards and USB storage media via wireless technology. It is also equipped with a power reserve which can charge mobile devices.

Today’s SSD landscape consists of two major players, LSI SandForce and Marvell, both of whom seem to be in a cat fight for top spot with several companies using their controller architecture in their respective SSD products. Plextor has wisely chosen the server-grade Marvell 88SS9174 Marvell processor for their M3 and our report will give you an in depth view of one of the top SSDs on the market, the Plextor M3 SATA 3 256GB SSD.

The Seagate Business Storage 8-bay Rackmount is a good option if you need lots of storage in a very compact unit. Seagate managed to fit eight disks in a 1U rack module. The performance is good, and you can increase the write speed by using both network ports. We like the firmware, it's very well-organised and includes all the main features you need in a NAS.

Solid State Drives come in a variety of sizes and from a plethora of manufacturer's but when we focus on what the consumer actually needs, it's all quite simple. They are after a SSD that is quick, cost effective and has the capacity that they need. For the mass market, 240GB upwards is still overkill, and the 60-96GB market isn't quite large enough, so for a company to offer 128GB capacities can only mean good things, as it offers an ample amount of space for your operating system and in most cases, for your favourite games.

Seagate's 4TB NAS HDD provides a direct competitor to the WD Red line from WD. We place them head-to-head to see which comes out on top.

Most of our readers of course have at least one SSD in their desktop and laptop, but for large volume storage you're still relegated to conventional hard disks. We tested 42 current hard drives, both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch models. Find out what the perfect hard disk is for your desktop PC, your laptop and your NAS device.

The Western Digital Black² combines a relatively slow SSD with a mainstream HDD, but it's a unique and brilliant combination that's definitely more than the sum of its parts. The Black² is the perfect solution for when you only have one available storage slot but need both fast storage and a lot of it. This is the first time you can have both in a single slot, and is therefore a great storage solution for notebooks.

You may remember this chart of the SF-2200 Series Client Launch article from about a year. Listed on the far left is the SF-1222, the reigning champion of SATA II, first released in 2010. Just to the right is the challenger, SF-2141. The new SandForce controller is essentially a four channel 2281 with a 64GB capacity limit. On paper the 1222 and 2141 have nearly identical performance other than the IOPS. The newer 2141 doubles sustained read 4K IOPS (from 30K to 60K) and has a 6x increase in burst write 4K IOPS. The new 2141 does still have that 4 channel limit and we'll explore what that means today while testing the new ADATA S396 30GB SSD.

You can't tell by their identical exterior, but the Synology DS213 and DS 213+ are two very different NAS devices. The DS213 has a 2.0 GHz Marvell ARM processor, while the DS213+ is equipped with a 1,067 GHz FreeScale P1022 processor with integrated hardware encryption. On the front there is an SD-card slot and a USB port you can use to copy files to and from the NAS, but it's too bad that it's USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0. Synology included a handy synch button on the front to speed up this process. The user-friendly nature of Synology products remains the same.
