Super Talent has always been a name synonymous with memory. After using Super Talent RAM in the past, I held high expectations for their new line of USB Flash drives: the Pico series. Measuring merely 1.50" x 0.50", the Pico is by far the smallest USB thumb drive I have ever used. This drive lends itself to being kept in your pocket, on a key-chain, or as I will be testing it, on a necklace.

Benchmark Reviews has demonstrated a voracious appetite for high-speed storage technologies over the past few years, primarily fueled by our research and testing with Solid State Drive products. In this article Benchmark Reviews Executive Editor Olin Coles submitted several industry-specific questions directly to storage expert David Szabados, the Senior PR Manager responsible for enterprise storage, security, and future emerging storage technologies at Seagate Technology. David took time out of his busy schedule in the middle of the Seagate Barracuda X! T 6Gbps SATA-III HDD product launch to directly answer many of the questions we asked. Benchmark Reviews asked Seagate questions that cover everything from increasing spindle speeds and Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording to offering SSD products, which all help shape this technology interview into an extremely rare opportunity for our readers to learn of upcoming and developmental product plans directly from the manufacturer.

I’ve taken a look at many external hard drive enclosures in my time, but none quite like the one I’ve got for review today. The Vantec NexStar Vault is an enclosure for a 2.5” SATA hard drive, but as the name might suggest, it makes your secure. The Vault does this by incorporating a numerical keypad into it, you must enter a six digit combination to access the drive. It’s much more than that tough, the Vault automatically formats your drive half public and half private, so the end user really just has to put the drive in and that’s it. It can’t get much easier than that really.

Today for review I’ve got the Verbatim Tuff-Clip 8GB USB drive. This USB drive resembles a carabineer style clip that you can attach to most anything. The drive comes with software to create two partitions as well, one secure and one public so you can hide any important data so it can’t be accessed without a password. I’ve put it up against a few other 8gb USB drives I’ve got on hand for comparison and the Tuff-Clip performs well actually..

Vi-On from Thermaltake is a hard disk drive enclosure with a suspension mechanism for the hard drive, a sheet of rubber foam to reduce the noise produced by the drive and a temperature-controlled fan. It is available in two versions, with eSATA port and without this port, and two choices of color, black or white. Let's take a look on the black eSATA model.

If you have multiple hard drives, are a computer technician, or find yourslef constantly installing and uninstalling hard drives then you need to read our review of the improved BlacX Duet. With room to install 2 hard drives simultaneously and swap either at the push of a button the BlacX Duet should find a home on your desk and we tell you why.

Cloning hard drives with the USB 2.0 interface is slower than I would like, but the ease with which I'm able to insert and remove multiple drives more than makes up for this. I find the Thermaltake BlacX Duet dual hard drive docking station to be so useful that when I upgrade my system, SATA port multiplication will be one of the must have features of my next motherboard.

Kingston announced the SSDNow V+ series of SSDs on August 10, 2009 and aimed the product at mainstream consumers who wanted to switch over from a hard drive to a solid-state drive. Legit Reviews did a review on the 256GB V+ series SSD last fall and found it to be using all Samsung components and was an overall solid performing mainstream drive. Kingston announced their second generation of V+ series SSDs yesterday and we have spent the past several weeks playing around with one of these new drives. What has Kingston done differently with their second generation of V+ series drives? Well, for starters they have moved over to a Toshiba controller with Toshiba MLC NAND Flash. The drive also features Windows 7 TRIM support right out of the box, is available in higher capacities and is said to be speedier overall with improved read/write speeds.

Tax documents, company memos and even personal files are just some of the things that you might not want others to be able to see. With those security needs in mind, Kingston has created the DataTraveler Locker+, and ASE Labs has the 16GB model up for review.
