SanDisk releases the Optimus Eco to target the read-intensive market; yet the Eco retains many similar characteristics of the Optimus SSDs.

Over the past several years I’ve amassed a collection of SD (Secure Digital) cards beyond count, likely the result of various devices that depended on this media for recording files to flash storage. As the technology improved, more and more devices began using the microSD format. Eventually the microSD card surpassed the competition to become the standard with its faster speeds, higher capacity, and compact lightweight profile. In this article Benchmark Reviews will test transfer speeds and performance of the extended capacity 64GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card, model SDSDQX-064G-U46A.

Throughout this review, the SanDisk Extreme has gone head to head with the best and fastest SATA SSDs currently available. The SanDisk isn’t the fastest SSD in this article, however, it is the fastest 120GB SSD I have tested, and with very aggressive pricing, it is most certainly the cheapest SSD I have tested...

With these Extreme SSDs, SanDisk has proven it can make quality SSDs with reasonable performance. Unlike the SanDisk U100 SSDs from its OEM division that perform more like USB sticks in 2.5-inch format, the Extreme SSDs do perform well. And when an important party like SanDisk enters the consumer SSD market, that's only good news for both competition and innovation.

In terms of performance, if you were looking for surprises from the SandForce powered SanDisk Extreme, you'll find none here. Though no surprises, the performance is anything but disappointing. Blessed with high density, synchronous, and Toggle Mode NAND, we surmised that performance was going to be right up there with the best drives we've tested. We were right. It posted impressive scores on several of the benchmarks where it hit just over the rated specifications of 560MB/s reads and 520MB/s writes...

When it comes to SD card performance, we typically expect to see speeds typical of the industry standard of 90 MB/s. You can imagine the look on our faces when we receive a SD card that advertises read speeds of up to 280 MB/s. Ok, so maybe our jaws were touching the floor. That is exactly what happened when the SanDisk Extreme PRO SDHC UHS-II Card showed up at our front door.

Billed as the world’s fastest SD cards, the recently released SanDisk Extreme PRO SDHC/SDXC UHS-II memory card series uses the latest high-performance SD specification, UHS-II, to offer up to 280MB/s (1867X) read transfer speeds for optimized post production workflows and up to 250MB/s (1667X) write speeds for continuous burst-mode shooting. Read on to see how the SanDisk 32GB Extreme PRO UHS-II card performs!

Last week at Computex, SanDisk announced its latest and greatest in consumer solid state drives, the SanDisk Extreme Pro 6Gbps SSD. Targeting gamers, PC enthusiasts and media professionals, the Extreme Pro boasts performance consistency, as well as all around speed increase from its last round of consumer SSDs. Fortunately for us, SanDisk provided 240, 480 and 960GB samples of the Extreme Pro SSD for our review on return to Canada. Well, it’s our first weekend back and here we work on the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD Review.

True performance for the professional in all of us. We review the latest SD and microSD cards from SanDisk, and see how they perform.

How does one explain a card like this? I know - above top of the line! Or Greater than. . .? I say this because SanDisk's new Compact Flash(CF) card line, Extreme Pro, with it's 16, 32, and 64 GB options, has more speed than we have need... for... sorry about the rhyme. I suppose I mean to say more speed than you could ever need, but of course that is not really true. The SanDisk Extreme Pro's specs out perform most professional cameras including the Canon 5D Mark II. We'll check out if all this speed is worth it, after the break.
