With Read/Write data transfer speeds well exceeding the 150MB/s barrier the latest DataTraveler Ultimate G2 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive by Kingston is without doubt the fastest USB flash drive to pass from our test bench to date.

Around a month ago i was asked to attend a technology related seminar for which i had to prepare and bring enough material to fill a large part of the 6 hours total it was ment to last (i say ment because i ended up leaving a lot sooner). The result was me filling a total of 52GB worth of data from charts, benchmarks, product pictures and Full HD clips on my favorite Kingston HyperX 128GB USB Flash Drive. Now the interesting part was that i wasn't really the only person in charge of bringing material for the seminar and so in the end there were five of us each carrying a USB flash drive with enough data to fill not 6 but 30 hours. Because of that in the end we all started talking about flash drives, how their prices have reached an all-time low and which are the best ones in the market currently not only in terms of performance but also in appearance and build quality. Naturally the award winning HyperX and PREDATOR flash drives by Kingston where at the center of our discussion but it seems that Kingston is on a roll since the very next day we received their latest DataTraveler Ultimate G3 64GB USB 3.0 Flash drive.

Kingston, a leading memory vendor has just announced their first USB 3.0 flash drive almost a year later than the world first USB 3.0 flash drive in Nov 2009. This is understandable as it takes time for the market to accept and acknowledge all the new technologies before they go into mass production with much affordable price. Today let us have a deep dive on Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 flash drive.

Pretty much the top three things most of us (casual users, enthusiasts and gamers) take into account when out to get a brand new USB flash drive are capacity, price and speed (not necessarily in that order). However there are many people out there such as professionals and enterprise/industrial users who also require the best possible protection for their sensitive data something which normal flash drives can't offer. Because of that there are several manufacturers out there who produce some of the most innovative USB flash drives money can buy featuring not only "top secret" grade AES-256 data encryption algorithms but even secure data destruction if someone tries to hack them (unauthorized access). Kingston has been manufacturing such flash drives for a long time and right now they have a pretty long line for someone to choose from, however today we will be starting off with their entry level model, the DataTraveler Vault Privacy Edition 8GB.

Kingston's line of flash drives have been around for a number of years and through that time we've seen some fantastic looking and performing drives which range from small capacity, compact units ideal for attaching to your keys right through to the top end HyperX drives that push the speed factor to the next level. The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 is one of the latest drives to roll off the production line and coincides with the unveiling of the worlds first 1TB USB flash drive, which we saw earlier in the year at CES 2013.

Some months ago Kingston added several new products to the highly respected Date Traveller line of thumb drives one of which being the DT Elite 3.0 64gig. In a market that is awash with Thumb drives in a huge variety of storage sizes and styles at prices so suit almost any pocket what if anything can Kingston offer us in the DT Elite 3.0 to set it aside from the thousands of competitors…

There used to be a time when the only ultra-portable storage needs most people had could be easily covered with just a mere 2-4GB USB Flash Drive but much like most things related to technology that changed and now most people carry at least 16GB capacity drives with them at all times. Personally ever since i can remember I’ve always carried a USB flash drive with my keychain and most of the times that used to be an rugged version to ensure i had the best possible data protection against harsh conditions. Unfortunately compared to roughly 3-4 years ago not many manufacturers make rugged USB 3.0 flash drives any more (not really durable ones anyway) and the ones that do only release slow models. Well Kingston takes a different approach and after their already perfect HyperX USB 3.0 flash drive (partially rugged) they have just now released the DT R3.0 USB 3.0 flash drive line (the initials stand for DataTraveler Rugged 3.0) from which we have the 64GB variant here with us.

Kingston have long been known for producing high quality memory products, from laptop/desktop memory to flash drives and SSDs. What we have today falls into the flash drive category. It's a 32GB USB 3.0 version of the DataTraveler series, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0. Available in 16, 32 and 64GB versions and boasting some pretty quick read/write speeds it certainly looks impressive but how does it really do? Let's take a look.
