Samsung makes the DRAM modules found in nearly all popular SSD products today, with Elpida and Qimonda also adding their name to cache buffer parts. JMicron, Indilinx, and Samsung engineer many of the most well-known SSDs on the market, with OEM companies adding their own branding, custom-tuned firmware, and warranty. The OCZ Summit SATA-II MLC SSD is another such OEM product, built from the PB22-J model that Samsung decided not to ODM and sell themselves. Equipped with the Samsung S3C29RBB01 SSD controller and a 128MB cache buffer, OCZ intends to keep their crown as the King of SSD product offerings with the Summit OCZSSD2-1SUM120G.

For a good example of the features a modern optical drive should have, look no further than the Lite-On iHAS424 DL-DVD burner. It's got everything you'd expect from a DVD-writer, including dual-layer DVD writing and reading, compatibility with both + and - formats, as well as support for lightscribe label burning if you have photosensitive media. Of course, it'll also read and write CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

I started testing the OCZ Technology Agility 3 a couple of weeks ago, but before writing it up took a few weeks to reflect on my findings. While away, I saw one of the greatest finishes ever at the Indy 500 unfold right in front of me and my wife and I welcomed a new addition in our hearts. Even with all of these events going on around me, the Agility 3 was on the back of my mind.

SATA III based solid state drives (SSDs) may have reached the maximum supported read & write numbers most enthusiasts and gamers look for when out in the market for one but durability and sustained performance are the two most important aspects for professionals and enterprise users (probably even more important than maximum read & write speeds). Unfortunately ever since we made the SNIA IOMeter tests part of our testing methodology we've seen that not many models can produce good sustained performance numbers and so this might just be the next thing for them to focus on. However OCZ with their ARC 100 SSD model which we tested a few months back proved that they've already started to focus on that area (most likely thanks to their merge with Toshiba) and today we're taking their top of the line SATA III SSD model the Vector 180 480GB for a spin to see just how better it is compared to the ARC 100 and of course it's immediate competition.

Originally published when SSDs were in their infancy, The SSD Optimization Guide has become one of the world’s most read SSD resources, having been read by over a million worldwide since it’s publishing in 2010. Due to this popularity, The SSD Optimization Guide has undergone a facelift of sorts where new SSD enthusiasts can be as comfortable as those serious tweakers fine tuning their SSDs. Visit this guide to, not only learn what works and how to optimize your system, but also to follow our lead in learning about SSDs, how they can benefit you, how to purchase followed by after purchase installation.

I don’t know about you, but when I build a new PC I basically plan for an SSD for my operating system and then a second drive or more for my Steam and other files. This has been fairly consistent in my builds from the “Fridge” with its double SSD’s and double spinning drives all the way to the most recent “lunchbox 3” with its SSD and hard drive. I even do the same thing on my gaming laptop. Sadly, there are a lot of people who just can’t do this with their laptops do to only having one drive space. Western Digital surprised us late last week with a game changing drive that has that situation in mind without going with a hybrid setup. That drive is their new WD Black 2 Dual Drive, a single drive that houses a 120GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive.

Some months ago Kingston added several new products to the highly respected Date Traveller line of thumb drives one of which being the DT Elite 3.0 64gig. In a market that is awash with Thumb drives in a huge variety of storage sizes and styles at prices so suit almost any pocket what if anything can Kingston offer us in the DT Elite 3.0 to set it aside from the thousands of competitors…

Today I will be reviewing an external HDD enclosure from Icy Box called “IB-318STU3-B” (wonderful name). It has a USB 3.0 interface which should boost the data transfer speeds significantly, at least according to the specs. Only months ago, the third revision of the USB standard appeared. I’ve seen it called both “USB 3.0” and “USB SuperSpeed”.

OCZ Technology recently unveiled the highly anticipated Vertex Limited Edition (LE) Solid-State Drive and we have run our benchmark suite on it and are ready to show you what it can do. The Vertex LE 100GB and 200GB SSDs use the Sandforce SF-1500 controller and Intel MLC Flash in order to come with factory rated transfer speeds of up to 270MB/s read and 250MB/s write!
