Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 32GB @ XtremeHardware
Storage
The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 series has been around since 2010 and has a proven track record of being fast and reliable USB 3.0 Flash drives. The latest third generation drives have an updated appearance and are also thinner, faster and less costly than the previous generations. It is hard to find something complain about when the price of the DataTravler Ultimate 3.0 32GB drive goes from $100 in 2010 with 80MB/s read speeds to $38.06 shipped with 150MB/s read speeds. Nearly doubling performance and more than halving the price tag is pretty sweet...

A big facelift from the previous generation -- but is it enough to bring the DT Ultimate G3 to the top?

Transferring files between 2 computers has been made extremely easy for a while now with flash drives. These devices are small enough to fit in our pocket, deliver fast transfer speeds, and can hold quite a lot of data. Today we are taking a look at one of Kingston’s latest flash drives. Announced this year at CES the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 is a USB 3.0 drive that features read speeds of up to 150 MB/s and write speeds up to 70 MB/s. The drive has a solid metal matte finish and retractable design that protects the USB connection when it is not in use. Today we have the 64GB version on hand to see what it can do!

Today I am taking a look at the new Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 64GB USB thumb drive. As its name implies this is a USB 3.0 drive and according to the specifications supports transfer rates of up to 150MB/s Read and 70MB/s Write. I will test the reality of that a little later in this review. You may be pleasantly surprised by the results.

As USB 3.0 is slowly becoming integrated into more products such as the latest generation of PC motherboards more companies are releasing products to take advantage of this technology’s speed gains. Kingston created one of the 1stUSB 3.0 portable drives with the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 back in 2010. Recently they released the Generation 2 version of this drive the aptly named DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 (G2).

It’s a fact that USB3 has to offer very high speed reads and writes, in many cases most USB3 flash drives have the same or higher speed as a traditional spinning drive, but you don’t have to pay the penalty of the 2.5" portable size, and most importantly you don’t have to wait for it to access the file that you need.

Another flash drive? You're probably sick of seeing flash drive reviews that basically show a slow device with a moderate capacity. This is different. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate is a new USB3 version with write speeds of 60MB/s and reads of 80MB/s. This is more like a SSD than a flash drive.

Kingston's DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 (DTU30) features the latest technology for USB Flash drives, making it ideal for early adopters who want to take advantage of all the performance improvements offered by USB 3.0 right away. We push the try as hard as we could using synthetic benchmarks and then transferred some files to see how it performs in real world testing against several other USB devices that you might have heard of before.

Nations rise and nations fall, and from this, patriotism and war arises. Survival is key in conflicts between nations, which reminds me of a saying from a famous US General George S. Patton. He said, "War is not meant to be you dying for your country -- it is by making the [enemy] die for his." In the world of technology, companies rival against each other as well. Some claim patents on newly invented technology, while others sue each other for stealing ideas of innovation. Heck, when it comes down to consumer preference for different brands, the same scenario applies. We can evidently see this between Microsoft and Apple fanboys, but only in a more "subtle" and less violent sense. There is never only one type of technology developed and produced by one sole proprietorship. Hard drives are produced by Western Digital, Seagate, and other companies. The same concept applies to different laptops, desktops, memory, and many other such products. Even between small consumer products, we still have competition on who has the best hardware. To determine who is the best, well, welcome to APH Networks. What we have here at APH Networks today is a lightning fast USB 3.0 flash drive -- namely, the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate G2 32GB. Back in the day when USB 2.0 flash drives were still kicking around, 8GB of flash drive space was the real deal in quickly transferring files to your friend's computer. Now, with the Ultimate G2 featuring a USB 3.0 interface and speeds up to 100MB/s and 70MB/s for read and write respectively, how hard can it be to conveniently carry all the data you need in your pocket? Read on to see how 'ultimate' the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate G2 32GB flash drive is!
