2014 is finally here people and just like one of my friends says each year is a brand new 365 paged book so make sure you all write each page the best way you can. 2014 is a particularly special year since there are many things for us to look forward including the new X99 chipset based mainboards by Intel (finally something to replace our X79 system although we will keep it as well to continue with some of our databases) which will also use the brand new DDR4 RAM, new SSD/HDD hybrid models with large capacity NAND flash, new HDDs with at least 6TB capacities and of course new SSD NAND flash controllers. CES may just be 4 days away but some prototypes may actually make it there in time (if not we will probably see them in this year’s CeBIT) so if you live near Las Vegas i strongly recommend attending if you'd like a first row seat on everything new to come in 2014. Now normal SATA III SSDs may not be the hottest hardware component around currently but thanks to all the continuous price drops sales keep increasing so naturally every manufacturer out there wants a piece of the pie. Kingston has been amongst the top players for quite some time now and although they have enough SSD models to cover every consumer out there still they keep adding more the last of which is the SSDnow KC300.

This week I had a blast working with a Intel 520 series 240GB Solid State Drive, this thing is as closest to a perfect woman as your gonna get. Its works really fast, does it quietly and doesn’t complain at all not even after a full 10hrs workload :-).
No seriously, solid state drives are a must have these days. Imaging putting one in your notebook saving energy and increasing your workflow as well. I have been watching the prices from the start when they still were sky high, nowadays it’s becoming more and more affordable and even for the common folk like me.

Recently Eye-Fi released a new model called the Mobi, which we have received for today’s review. This wireless SD card easily transmits photos and videos directly to one’s smartphone or tablet. It is aimed for the more casual photographers as it lacks some features in other Eye-Fi cards. Unlike the more expensive Eye-Fi Pro X2 it cannot send pictures to a computer or transmits RAW files.

Every now and then it is refreshing to see a company that believes that rushing into the dog race of technological advance might not be as business smart as simply understanding customer needs. This is definitely the case with Patriot and their new Torqx 2 SSD that not only remains to be a SATA 2.0 drive, but also, is definitely in the price range to attract new SSD enthusiasts. In the rush to push out SATA 3, SSD manufacturers may have forgotten that 99% of computer owners are using SATA 2 systems and just might seek a SATA 2 SSD in the near future.
