Zalman's entry into the SSD market has left me impressed. The S-Series 128GB drive with its JMicron JMF616 controller performed well in benchmark tests, easily reaching the advertised 260mb/s read speed. Write speeds didn't quite reach the advertised 210mb/s, but they came close and you can count on this being a very quick drive for everyday computing as well as for gaming and other intensive tasks.

When Patriot started to release their SATA 6GB/s solid state drives they started with 2 drives. The Wildfire that was more on the high-end with Toshiba toggle memory and the Pyro which was the more consumer-focused drive that used asynchronous flash memory. Now Patriot has the Pyro SE, which will be using Micron 25nm synchronous memory. Using synchronous memory we should see better performance when it comes to incompressible data. Today we will be taking the 120GB version through the paces, read on to see how the drive performs.

SuperSpeed USB-3.0 delivers a very dramatic improvement over the older USB-2 protocol. Bandwidth speed has increased from 480 Mb/s to 5000 Mb/s, and file transfer rates as fast as 400 MB/s are now possible; making SuperSpeed USB-3.0 very competitive with the Serial-ATA interface. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the Super Talent RAIDDrive ST3U64SRK SuperSpeed USB-3.0 flash drive, a product with up to 128GB of capacity which utilizes two SSD controllers in a RAID-0 array. The Super Talent USB-3.0 RAIDDrive is capable of 320 MB/s according to specifications, making it the fastest USB flash drive on the market.

What I do really like about the Corsair Neutron GTX is that its performance is always predictable. There is no need to worry if the SSD will slow down when faced with writing incompressible data, it simply won’t. In fact, I’m quite sure that is the reason that the Corsair Neutron GTX and the OCZ Vertex 4 stand head and shoulders above the other SSDs in this article

While it can be argued that larger capacity external drives can be had for $99, Seagate's 320GB GoFlex Slim drive offers more versatility in a remarkably thin and light package. It can be accessed externally with both the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces, or it can be used internally with a desktop PC.

Today we received an e-mail from Jessica Luken, Global Marketing Director of OCZ Technology stating that a new Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD was en route and, if you would believe it, we received the package not 20 minutes later. I will have to admit that I was a bit unprepared and stood their wondering what the difference was between the two Vertex 3's at only a $20 upgrade. The question then presented itself as to whether the consumer would see a marked difference between thet two.

Looking to diversify their business even more ZOTAC recently released the RAIDBOX, a compact USB 3.0 enclosure which allows us to install two mSATA hard drives then RAID them for enhanced performance/data protection. Today we have a sample on our test bench, along with two high spec 256GB mSATA drives from ADATA.

Flash drives are fairly common in today. Lexar has been in the flash field for years. Today, we have the small and sleek Lexar FireFly on the bench at ASE Labs. While Lexar has geared this product towards the youth, anyone will enjoy it just the same.
