Today we are looking at two new Solid State Drives from Visiontek, a company primarily known as one of AMD’s partners in America. Both GoDrive and Racer Series are powered by the Sandforce 2281 controller, however the Racer Series features high specification 24nm Toshiba Toggle MLC NAND flash for strong incompressible data performance.

In terms of performance, if you were looking for surprises from the SandForce powered SanDisk Extreme, you'll find none here. Though no surprises, the performance is anything but disappointing. Blessed with high density, synchronous, and Toggle Mode NAND, we surmised that performance was going to be right up there with the best drives we've tested. We were right. It posted impressive scores on several of the benchmarks where it hit just over the rated specifications of 560MB/s reads and 520MB/s writes...

With the Agility series, OCZ has offered excellent performance at a value and the Agility 3 120GB continues this trend. With its SandForce controller the Agility 3 hits read speeds over 500MB/s and write speeds north of 450MB/s making it a speedy drive.

We all know (or at least most of us) that hard disk drives are much slower than solid state drives and so using the second just to house the primary OS (operating system) is always the ideal scenario. However no one can deny the splendid price/capacity ratio of HDDs especially now that we even have massive 4TB units available. Personally i don't feel I’ll ever be happy at least not until we finally see drives with capacities well exceeding the 10TB mark but in the meantime they highest available capacities will just have to do. A couple of months ago we checked the latest consumer oriented Deskstar 7K4000 4TB SATA III hard disk drive by Hitachi GST and as promised back then today on our test bench we have the latest enterprise class Ultrastar 7K4000 4TB SATA II hard disk drive.

ADATA’s SP900 from the beginning gave me the impression that it’s mainly aimed at the daily PC user, and in that regard it gives very good performance

If you thought you couldn't afford a decent SSD, you may just be wrong. Kingston's V200 series drives are aimed at the cost conscious consumer yet carry some nice performance numbers of 300MB/s reads and 190MB/s writes. With pricing well below $1 per usable GB, there's little reason to sit and wait on a spinning platter drive. Check out the specifics like the nicely appointed bundle in the article.

Plextor uses the new Marvell 9287 controller, new Toshiba 19nm Toggle Mode Flash and gives us a new understanding of what it means to be fast
Storage
The Plextor M5 Pro 128GB is the fastest 120/128 GB SSD that we've ever tested. It set new records in PCMark Vantage, PCMark7 and AS SSD. Generally speaking, this SSD is faster than any SandForce-based models, faster than any Marvell 88SS9174-based models, faster than the Samsung SSD 830 and even a bit faster than the OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB which is built around the same chip. Add to that five years of warranty and a fitting package (bracket and data migration software) and we can easily conclude that the Plextor M5 Pro is the ultimate SSD currently on the market.
