The Synology NAS series this year has proven to be very impressive with capable, fast, versatile systems available at every price point. We recently reviewed the high end DS1010+ and DX510 expansion unit and felt it was one of the best configurations available for the business audience.

Most of you have probably seen the commercials from Microsoft touting the cloud experience behind Windows 7 and Windows Live. The thing is... many of us that have Windows 7 don't really know how to do some of the things they show in those commercials. In this multi-part series, we will attempt to demystify the "cloud" and show you how to make it happen.

On the enterprise side, things were even more veiled. Unless you were a Tier-1 OEM, you had a difficult time procuring Samsung enterprise drives. Many distributors simply did not carry them as part of their line card, so small and mid-sized companies were out of luck. With the introduction of the SM843, Samsung has taken what has worked so well for the 840 Pro, namely performance, price and marketing, and carved themselves out a great niche in the enterprise market.

The majority of PC users out there have regular mechanical hard drives in their computers, it’s going to be a long time before SSDs replace them. Hard drive companies like Seagate know this and they’re not going to stop improving the technology, with the introduction of the new SATA 3 interface we’re starting to see hard drives to go with it. The first company out the door with one was Seagate, and it’s a big one coming in at 2 Terabytes in size called the Barracuda XT, and that’s what I’ve got for review today.

Solid state drives may have been around in the consumer market for roughly 8 years now but they are still considered to be amongst the hottest PC/MAC hardware components aimed towards people who are after something more in terms of reliability and performance compared to regular mechanical drives. Certainly although once such drives were very popular mostly amongst gamers and professionals due to their price decrease over the past 2-3 years they've become a lot more mainstream thus you can find them even in low-cost desktop systems and notebooks. Still not SSDs have the same target audience not only because of their performance, capacity and price but also because of their durability and today we'll be taking a look at the latest model launched by OCZ the ARC 100 which always according to them it excels on all four.

As expected, pairing a couple of drives like the Neutron GTX's which already put up superb performance numbers singularly, really kicks up performance to a whole new level. In fact, in most of our tests, the throughputs nearly doubled from what we saw on a single drive. With the LAMD controller, we barely saw any difference between compressible and incompressible data which translates to a more even real world experience...

Here at XSReviews we previously took a look at another Synology product known as the DS-210j which showed a lot of promise as a home enthusiast, or business user's NAS drive. Now though, we're looking at the much bigger brother. Faster, better looking and definately more expensive, ladies and gentlemen I give you the DS710+.

It would be difficult for most people to imagine the amount of testing that goes into a product review. I think most reading this have run a benchmark on their system before, but few can really grasp what it means to systematically run test after test without varying order or timeline. We run a lot of tests, several more than what makes it into a final review. Once you master the art of testing and the discipline of keeping a dedicated test machine, certain patterns emerge. Some of these show up in the tests that are published and sometimes they show up in others. When a test shows something of value and isn't redundant with another test, we typically bring that test into the review. This can sometimes be to explain something we saw in another test or at times add a way to look at a product.

With so little internal storage on some netbooks, adding a SDHC card let’s you do even more by giving you more space to install applications and store data. SanDisk recently came out with an 8GB and 16GB Netbook SDHC Card series and we put the 16GB card to test in an ASUS Eee PC 900 netbook that originally came with an 4GB SSD.
