Storage The 1TB Seagate FreeAgent Go performs respectably, with transfer rates you might expect from your typical USB hard drive. The slight differences in benchmark performance might not really matter though, because during the real world file transfer testing there was never more than a one or two second difference between drives.

Storage Recently Seagate began really pushing the high end of the storage market again with the launch of their Enterprise Capacity 3.5 v4 range. With models at 5TB and 6TB we can create some pretty spectacular storage systems but they are more than just that. Seagate have also tuned them for high performance... so massive capacity and speeds quoted over 200MB/s read/write from a single mechanical drive? Today we have the 6TB version attached to our system, let's see if it can live up to the claims.

Storage Last night while i was discussing the future of hard disk drives with my cousin it just occurred to us that just roughly 5 years ago storage capacities at around the 3.2GB mark were considered as quite large and not everyone could afford even just that. Fast forward to today and things have changed in an massive degree due to the advancement of technology and the continuous price drops since most people own at least a single 2TB (2000GB) drive while others even use several 4TB (4000GB) drives to cover their needs. Of course ultra-high capacities like the second example are primarily useful for people who obviously have huge storage needs (namely professionals) and so casual users are not really included. However for people who do have huge storage needs even 4TB HDDs are not nearly enough to cover those needs and so the recent appearance of 6TB HDDs is without doubt great news. Today we will be taking a look at 3 of the latest Enterprise Capacity 3.5 v4 6TB SATA III hard disk drives by Seagate in both single and RAID0 tests.

Storage If we exclude the unfortunate floods that took place in Thailand roughly a year ago (and forced several factories to cease HDD manufacturing and shipping) HDD prices normally get serious cuts each day that goes by (as do SSD prices) and so currently even the highest capacity 4TB models retail at such prices that can be easily purchased by casual users and gamers around the world. That however mostly stands with entry level models that offer exactly what most users want and that's a good price to capacity ratio without however sacrificing performance. On the other hand however professionals and enterprise users want the best money can buy not only in terms of performance and capacity but also in terms of durability under extreme conditions and that's where enterprise class HDDs like the latest Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 V.3 (former Constellation ES.3) 4TB SATA III come in.

Storage When it comes to PCs and MACs most people believe that the heart of the system is the CPU with the exception of gamers who naturally put the GPU (graphics card) above everything else. I too had the same opinion almost a decade ago but slowly and after countless of storage related reviews i begun to realize that the true heart of a system is neither the CPU nor the GPU but rather the storage device regardless of whether we are talking about mechanical HDDs or SSDs. You see no matter of what kind of CPU or GPU a system has you can always perform certain functions, perhaps not the highest demanding ones but you can nevertheless. However without a storage device or with one that has but a limited available capacity there's really that many things one can do especially nowadays when most people have several TBs of data. Now last month we tested the latest Enterprise Capacity 3.5 V.3 4TB SATA III enterprise class hard disk drives (former Constellation ES.3) by Seagate which pretty much dominated the competition. Well today we will be taking a look at the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) variants which as you will see later on had no issue surpassing their SATA brothers to become the fastest HDDs to ever pass from our test bench.

Storage When it comes to storage media it's no secret that laptop/notebook owners have been getting the short end of the stick for over a decade now something which is about to change since manufacturers have finally begun to focus in the development of 2.5" drives up to 3TB (as the name of the drive clearly states laptop owners may not be their primary target group but that matters very little in the end since anyone can use it). Certainly compared to the 6, 8 and 10TB 3.5" desktop models available 3TB may not seem as a breakthrough but since until recently the highest capacity model consumers had access to was just 1.5TB we're basically talking about a 100% increase. Unfortunately 3TB 2.5" drives may be a reality but they are months away from a massive release and so today we're going to be taking a look at the next best thing which is no other than the 2TB Enterprise Capacity 2.5 HDD V3 model by Seagate.
