For those who choose a laptop as their primary computer, storage space is an eternal problem. Between games, music, movies and pictures, the gigabytes can disappear before you know it. While this is true of any PC, notebooks have it doubly rough: they usually only have space for one drive, and that one has to fit the 2.5 inch form factor. Today, we'll be looking at one of Seagate's answers to this challenge, the Momentus 640GB.

If you follow the solid state drive market, you may have heard some of the reviewers talk about a tool released by OCZ called the OCZ Toolbox. OCZ released this tool for reviewers many months ago and asked us to keep it under wraps while they perfected this application.

We will be putting the RevoDrive X2 up against the original and one of the top performing SSDs on the market, Crucial's SATA 6GB/s based C300 256GB to find out how they compare in a selection of synthetic and real world tests. By the end of the review you will know exactly how OCZ's latest product will affect your daily PC use and productivity.

I still distinctively recall myself saying this out loud back in the early 2000s. "60GB? What can I do with that!?" As we approach the end of 2010, I caught myself saying the same thing -- albeit in an entirely different context. "60GB? What can I do with that!?" In the days where 1000GB hard drives are a dime a dozen, the rise of solid state drives in recent years among enthusiasts and high end computer users has always been focused on one thing: Performance. Sure, you can fill up a 60GB drive with a couple movies and a few songs, but that's not the point. Because the cost-per-gigabyte of an SSD is probably more than thirty times higher than a traditional mechanical hard drive at the time of writing this review, most users probably can't afford to use them for mass storage -- and at the same time, it is not a practical solution at the time being, either. After all, you probably don't go through everything in your hard drive every single day, right? Therefore, here is a popular solution for people trying to squeeze more performance out of their system: Buy a modest capacity SSD for your operating system and all your programs, and a big fat hard drive to store everything else. The OCZ Vertex 2 60GB solid state drive we are reviewing today is designed for this very purpose. Powered by the popular SandForce SF-1200 controller, promising up to 285MB/s and 275MB/s read and write speed respectively, 0.1ms access latency, and up to 50,000 IOPS, how well does this high performance storage device improve your computing experience? Read on to find out!

Looking to add a lot of storage in a small amount of space? Or perhaps you simply want a super fast Raid array without the associated cost. The Patriot Convoy 425XL is a 5.25” SATA storage enclosure which holds up to four drives in a hot-swappable configuration. Does the convoy deliver? Read our review to find out.

Blu-ray Disk or BD has been around for nearly a decade, but it has really taken off in popularity the last few years. With the explosion in sales of progressively lower-priced LCD and Plasma HDTVs, and the end of the format war with HD DVD, Blu-ray has firmly established itself as the new standard for high definition video. While initially very expensive, just as DVD-R and CD-R were in their infancy, BD-R drives have recently hit the sub-$100 level, and blanks can be had for about a buck a piece when purchased in bulk. The LG WH08LS20 combo drive from Geeks.com fits this category, and is the subject of our review today.

A few months ago we told you about solid state drive manufacturers playing with the number of channels and flash modules on SandForce SF-1200 controllers to achieve new capacity variations. The first round of products with the new configurations were 40GB drives. Corsair has a new configuration that increases the capacity to 90GB and also retains the high IOPS programming that keeps transactions rates high.

One way to take advantage of this bus speed is to pair a speedy Solid State Drive (SSD) with an enclosure using USB 3.0. Kingston is one of the first to enter this market with the release of its HyperX MAX 3.0, their external SSD based USB 3.0 drive. This drive uses flash memory in place of a mechanic drive which provides advertised read speeds of up to 195MB/sec and writes up to 160MB/sec. Kingston offers the HyperX MAX 3.0 in three capacities – 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
