One way to take advantage of this bus speed is to pair a speedy Solid State Drive (SSD) with an enclosure using USB 3.0. Kingston is one of the first to enter this market with the release of its HyperX MAX 3.0, their external SSD based USB 3.0 drive. This drive uses flash memory in place of a mechanic drive which provides advertised read speeds of up to 195MB/sec and writes up to 160MB/sec. Kingston offers the HyperX MAX 3.0 in three capacities – 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Every now and then something comes around that is particularly eye catching and the world of SSDs is no different. The Viking Modular SATADIMM is just one of those things and we thought we might venture outside the box just a bit and put a 25GB SLC version of the SATADIMM to the test. It can be described as a wolf in sheeps clothing because, although it does look like a typical RAM module, it is really anything but.

Apacer is known for their industrial products in the US, but in Australia and the rest of the APAC region their consumer product line competes with many of the big names that compete globally. Apacer offers many product types, from USB hubs to media players and flash products. Their latest offering is what is putting Apacer in the TweakTown spotlight today; an ultra fast SandForce based SSD that rivals those coming from the US.

Notebook schneller machen leicht gemacht.

We have posted a new article at The SSD Review which we find may benefit your readers and appreciate consideration in linking this on your site. The SSD Review is a 'solid state drive' specific site that, for the most part , reviews SSD related hardware and also jumps into RAID configurations, Beginners, Buyers and Optimization Guides for the SSD user. We also have a Windows 7 Optimization Guide that has gone viral since it was first published right beside the SSD Optimization Guide.

USB 3.0 has a lot of promise for devices that need large amounts of bandwidth. So far we've only been given a glimpse of what the specification has to offer. The big marketing claim for USB 3.0 has always been 'up to 10x USB 2.0 speeds', but in our real world testing we've only been able to achieve around 200MB/s. With USB 2.0 topping out at around 35MB/s on a good day, 10x USB 2.0 has yet to be achieved. There are several reasons for this, but what it really comes down to is PCIe bandwidth and what current chipsets are able to make available after all those video cards, SATA, eSATA and USB ports take up. On top of the bandwidth limitations is the current crop of USB 3.0 controller and bridge chips. Many do not offer the 10x bandwidth we have been promised.

We've all heard of OCZ, and know of their stance in the market place but you may be unaware of some of the areas that the storage giant delve into. Obviously they gave up on the memory market so they could focus on their storage devices. Conventionally this includes the style of SSD that we are all used to including the likes of the Vertex II drive that we looked at a little while ago.

The LG BH10LS30 from Geeks.com is definitely worth considering if you're in the market to upgrade your computer to have Blu-ray capabilities. Blu-ray writing is rated at up to 10x, while DVD writing is rated at up to 16x and CD writing is rated at up to 48x. All of these values are near the top of the list when it comes to writing specifications for the various formats.
