Today we will have a look at a SSD drive from their latest series which aims to compete directly against Intel's MLC drives, the Vertex. The Vertex not only utilizes a different controller than its predecessors, it also has a 64MB on-board cache which helps it achieve even higher performance levels. We will thoroughly test it in this review and compare it against its cheaper Apex sibling, as well as wide range of mechanical drives.

OCZ Technology has once again brought cutting-edge high-speed SSDs into the value storage segment with their Agility 2 series. Based on the SandForce SF1200 controller, the OCZ Agility 2 SSD delivers up to 20,000 IOPS with incredible bandwidth speed. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the 120GB OCZ Agility 2 Extended OCZSSD2-2AGTE120G against some of the fastest storage solutions on the market. Just when PCs were starting to seem irrelevant in this fast-paced world of mobile gadgets and smart phones, along comes a new product that changes the entire landscape. SSDs, or more formally Solid State Drives, have finally lifted computers beyond the age of spinning metal magnetic platters. Delivering a boost in speed that no memory upgrade or new processor could ever dream of, solid state drive technology has sent hard disk drives packing.

Seagate has now introduced two generations of their Momentus XT solid state hybrid drive (SSHD) which combined the larger storage capacity of a traditional hard drive with the faster transfer rates of a solid state drive. This fusion of technology offered an improvement over standard drives and moved performance closer to a SSD. The third generation is available now, and Seagate is calling this generation the Laptop SSHD or Laptop Thin SSHD, depending on the thickness of the unit.

The Patriot Memory Supersonic 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive performed just about as expected, which means a new level of performance when upgrading from a USB 2.0 capable flash drive. The write speeds were almost as good as the published specification (70MB/s), while the read speeds actually exceeded Patriot Memory's specification (100MB/s).

We’ve tested a few Synology products here at XSR over the past couple of years, but they’ve always been big Diskstations with plenty of storage capacity, or the physical space to add a large ammount of your own. Today I’m looking at something a little different. It still has Station in the name, but it won’t be building any “Good robot Us’es“, this one is a USB variant. No storage space of its own, but able to use your network and attached drives as its own personal data bank

One new device from NETGEAR which looks to offer both traditional networking and some additional features is the NETGEAR Centria WNDR4700. Part wireless-n (dual band) router, part storage device it allows us to add our own hard drive and enable media/backup functionality on our home network without the need for separate devices. Today we have one to review...

Samsung's 840 returns for the second day in a row. This time Chris tests TLC flash paired with a tri-core MDX controller with the 250GB model. Will he love the low power or will the 240MB/s sequential write limit send him for a cold shower?

Wireless storage is becoming increasingly popular, I cannot tell you how many wireless hard drives we saw at CES this year. Wireless storage is great as you do not need to be physically connected to the drive to access it and think about how many wireless devices you have in your house. How many of those devices do you take with you on a daily basis? For me I take my laptop, iPhone and Kindle with me everywhere. With limited storage space on these devices I want to be able to take my media with me and access it from all of these devices…at the same time. We have already taken a look at devices like Kingston’s Wi-Drive and Patriot’s Gauntlet Node that give you this ability. Each device has its limitations though. Today we are taking a look at a device from ADATA that everyone should add to their mobile arsenal. The DashDrive Air is a wireless storage reader and power bank that gives you that mobile storage as well as the ability to charge your devices and so much more! Read on as we take a look!

With the release of Intels X79 chipset and new 2011 socket it was only a matter of time before we saw Motherboards aimed at the gamer. X79 brings Quad Channel memory architecture and PCI 3.0 supporting the RAM and Video Cards respectively. Finally we get to take a look at the infamous ASRock Fatal1ty Professional Motherboard with the new X79 Chipset. The new X79 chipset brings PCI3.0 and Quad Channel Ram onto the Intel market. PCI3.0 is aimed squarely at gamers because of its throughput for the latest high end GPUs and this board has 4x of them. Fatal1ty has always been aimed at the power-user and gamer and they have (seemingly) not disappointed at first glance. All of this leaves us excited to get our hands on the board. ASRock has given us this boiled down spec sheet which leave us drooling...
