In the past we have reviewed a number of various NAS boxes from QNAP and have always been pleased with their performance and features. Today we take a closer look at their latest top of the line, the QNAP TS-259 Pro+NAS, and see how it holds up to the competition as well as taking a look at some other models. While its outside appearance is very similar to the previous generation of NAS boxes from QNAP, a closer look at the specs reveals that the system’s internals have been completely overhauled. Remember that when looking at the specs, NAS boxes have a customized OS so they are normally extremely low powered and are optimized purely for network and file I/O.

It was only a matter of time before Zalman jumped into the SSD ring as they have an excellent reputation for just about any technology related product one can think of. Their first entries are the N-Series and S-Series of SSDs, the N-series containing the SandForce SF-1200 controller while the S-Series contains the JMicron 616 controller. Today we will be hard at work putting the S-Series 128GB drive to the test. The Zalman S-Series 128GB SSD is a mid-level SSD which is available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 128GB with prices from $79 dollars up to $219, as would be the typical price for this test unit. The N-Series is presently available in capacities from 64GB to 128GB but their product site relates that new entries of 40GB and 256GB are expected soon.

When it comes to traditional platter drives, the most innovative company on the block is Seagate. Seagate has many firsts under their belt, more than what I could possibly go into in an article about a single drive. Adding to the long string of innovative products is the new Seagate Constellation.2 Series of products.

Just last week we showed the Seagate Constellation.2 1TB SATA drive. The new Constellation.2 proved to be a worthy successor to the popular Constellation Series and it outperforms the first generation drive by a significant margin. Seagate also managed to double the capacity of the series while keeping the price of the new drives in line with the old offerings.

It wasn't 2 hours ago that I received a call from DHL stating that they had received a rush package from Intel I might be interested in. It hasn't been 10 minutes since I tested the Intel 310 Series Mini PCIe SSD for the first time. The internets first tests (I think) can be seen in our Benchmarks Forums.

'My SSD Is Faster than Your HDD' just doesn't seem to fit the part when we are speaking of the OCZ RevoDrive x2 PCIe SSD. Anytime you consider a product that is controlled by four (4) SandForce SF-1200 series controllers, prepare to be amazed. The RevoDrive x2 should knock your socks off with advertised specs of 740MB/s read and 690MB/s write and 4k random write of 100, 000 IOPS.

It is no secret that solid state drives are very profitable and every company is looking to take a slice of the green pie. The latest addition to the growing number of companies offering SSDs is Zalman. Zalman, a company best known for their high performance CPU heat sink coolers and high quality PC cases, might seem to be late for the party, but their entry comes at a time when the winners have been established and little chance of faultier was possible.

While little pen/flash drives have increased in capacity in recent years, those that want a bit more storage space are still forced with going with portable hard drives, or SSDs. However, if you don't want to utilise a drive of your own, or sort out hard drive cages or covers, the pre-built option is also available. Today we look at such a device from Kingston, the HyperX 64GB Max 3.0 device that utilises USB 3 technology to give it incredibly quick transfer rates with a reasonable capacity behind it too.

Picking a good hard drive is not an easy task. Everyone likes to focus on the fact that the CPU, Motherboard and RAM and make up the heart of the computer. I would argue that your hard drive is just as important if not more important. If you’re motherboard dies you can buy a new one and be on your way again for less than a hundred bucks. If you’re hard drive dies you may forever lose those precious memories.
