In our testing we found that the new DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 is almost as fast as the HyperX MAX 3.0 we tested last year, a USB 3.0 solid state drive. A few weeks ago we published a review of the RunCore Moon and found it reads data at right around 160MB/s. The HyperX branded DataTraveler reached 240MB/s while reading data in our tests, a full 80MB/s faster than the Moon! Kingston may have just knocked it out of the park with the DataTraveler HyperX 3.0.
Kingston is already selling three capacity sizes of the DataTraveler HyperX 3.0. Those are 64GB, 128GB and a massive 256GB size that can hold over 51,000 10MP pictures. Today we're looking at the 64GB drive that is on sale now at Newegg for just under $130.

The term “caching drive” is something that many people are becoming accustomed to as are we. We really started seeing these caching drives when Intel came out with their Z68 chipset that allowed you to add a smaller solid state drive to your existing drive, which would increase overall performance. This is great for people who have an Intel Z68 motherboard, but what about everyone else? This is where OCZ’s Synapse Cache drive comes in. It is a SATA 6GB/s solid state drive, but comes with software that allows you to make it a caching drive on any PC system. Read on as we check it out!

For users with older based systems running IDE controllers, a device has cropped up that opens up some extra functionality.

For those users that want their cake and eat it too, how do we leverage the speed of SSD drives with the raw storage capacity of traditional spinning drives? The answer, SSD caching. Originally only available on higher end enterprise class storage, such as Adaptec’s maxCache or LSI’s CacheCade, this technology is beginning to show up in the consumer market. Essentially this allows a user to configure one (or more) SSD drives to be used for read or write cache for frequently accessed data residing on slower spinning HDD media. This frequently accessed data sitting on spinning HDD media will be served by the faster SSD drives, and the end result is SSD “like” performance with the raw capacity of traditional HDD media.

The DiskStation DS412+ is another high performance NAS from Synology which allows a total of 4 HDDs/SSDs to be installed for enough storage space and are cooled properly with the two included 92mm fans, which are also silent during normal operation. On a single LAN connection, the unit maxes out the read/write transfer speeds and the “beast” is really unleashed when used in enterprise environments, with the “Link Aggregation” feature enabled.

Our report today will be an exclusive pre-release review of the upcoming Super Talent RAIDDrive upStream PCIe SSD. Although release dates and prices of the upStream have yet to be announced, it might be a safe bet that the upStream will be the second PCIe SSD to reach consumer hands , although it will also be configurable to enterprise need as well. Expected value, performance and ease of installation are three characteristics that might make this new PCIe SSD entry a success.

Today we're going to walk you through what we know about the new controller, what we don't know about the controller and touch on some OCZ distributed benchmarks. A full review of the new OCZ Vertex 4 256GB and 512GB SSDs (which use this very controller) will make it to the site at the same time as this article is published.

There are great performance enhancements when a system is upgraded to a solid state drive from a mechanical hard drive. A large number of SSDs are currently on the market, making the choice of which one to buy quite difficult. Today we are going to look at the latest Performance Pro 128 GB SSD from Corsair to see how it fares against the competition.
