Our report on the Samsung 840 Pro SSD begins post take off from Pearson Int’l Airport in Toronto and on route to Seoul, South Korea. Having had this SSD in our hands for some time, even the enormity of the Samsung 840 family release celebration cannot overshadow the performance of what just might be the hottest solid state drive to hit the streets to date. How does just under an extra hour laptop life and 100,000 IOPS grab you to start?

Realignment of priorities with respect to solid state storage at OCZ came as no surprise considering the turbulence of the past two years resulting in Ralph Schmidt’s appointment as the new CEO and the abrupt exit of Ryan Petersen from this part of the world. The unchallenged leader of SSD models is now reducing it’s consumer line to just four models and, just as unexpectedly, the ‘LSI SandForce Driven’ Vertex 3.20 gets a refresh and remains in that mix.

There have been more than a few interesting things that we have seen in reviewing technology over the past few years. Today’s SSD analysis is yet another, although it is not the first time this has happened.nCan you catch the oddity in this report just yet? If not, take a closer look and follow along as we walk you through our latest SSD analysis, this on MyDigitalSSD’s newest notebook SSD, the 120GB MyDigitalSSD BP4.

It wasn’t so long ago that we had a sit down with Crucial/Micron at Storage Visions 2012 and they spoke of their SSD plans for the year, the Adrenaline Caching SSD and production of a mSATA SSD being high priorities on the list. Shortly after that venture, we reviewed the Adrenaline and here we are back once again with announcement, and full review, of the new Micron C400 SATA 3 Client mSATA SSD. The C400 is not a retail item, however, fret not as we are sure that release of the M4 mSATA can’t be far behind.

If someone would have suggested that mSATA SSD sales would overtake that of notebook form factor SSDs a few years ago, SSD manufacturers would have told them they were nuts. After all, the typical notebook size SSD could replace any hard drive, yet mSATA SSD use was extremely limited, to say the least. The ultrabook was just becoming a vision and, for the most part, the mSATA SSD was limited to Lenovo Thinkpad owners.

Our detailed analysis of the Intel 910 Series PCI Express 800GB SSD marks the beginning of Intel’s push into the PCIe SSD enterprise storage market. If the difficulty experienced reviewing this SSD is any indication of it’s caliber, the world is in for a pleasant shock as it was rather difficult to get the 910 to settle at it’s Steady State performance. The 910 was literally like a race horse jumping gate as it’s quick recovery made obtaining Steady State analysis a task in itself.

Every now and then it’s nice to let out a bit of a heads up what we are working on behind the scenes at The SSD Review. It just might give a bit of an indication as to what could be published as front page coverage soon enough. Take a look here to see a great disassembled Intel 910 PCIe SSD shot, one of the OWC Accelsior PCIe SSD and a great shot of 32 Intel 520 SSDs and 5 Intel RAID Cards. The best is yet to come!

It is always an exciting time when a new controller makes it’s way on to the SSD scene. It is like seeing a new contender in any sporting event and predicting their success based on the balance of strength and inexperience. Our analysis today examines the new Link A Media (LAMD) 6Gbps controller found within the Corsair Neutron and Neutron GTX SSDs. Watch as the Neutron delivers a first round knockout.

Originally published when SSDs were in their infancy, The SSD Optimization Guide has become one of the world’s most read SSD resources, having been read by over a million worldwide since it’s publishing in 2010. Due to this popularity, The SSD Optimization Guide has undergone a facelift of sorts where new SSD enthusiasts can be as comfortable as those serious tweakers fine tuning their SSDs. Visit this guide to, not only learn what works and how to optimize your system, but also to follow our lead in learning about SSDs, how they can benefit you, how to purchase followed by after purchase installation.

So we were just winding down from CES 2012 last week and bidding adieu to many of our friends for another year when we popped by the Super Talent booth. Our relationship with ST goes back a few years and Peter Carcione, Super Talents Director of Marketing, is a good friend who always seems to have something up his sleeve. This time was no different as Peter tossed over a brand new TeraDrive Nova SATA 3 240GB SSD for review and we couldn’t wait to get it on the bench!
