I am not entirely sure of the origins of the word, but according to Urban Dictionary. a ricer is one who "...makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice" to make it (mostly make it look) faster." Now first off, I just want to make the statement that not everything imported has to do with rice. Secondly, let me clear a few things for you ladies and gents. No, I do not own a riced up car; and no, I do not go around Chinatown rolling in first gear flaunting my excessively large exhaust. So what does today's review on a simple 3.5" HDD enclosure have anything to do with ricers? Well, in the past year or so, Thermaltake released a new HDD enclosure in the Silver River series, aptly called the Silver River II. What is different about this enclosure compared to its predecessor, the Silver River DUO? Well, absolutely nothing -- or at least it seems like it. It appears that what the Silver River II 3.5" offers to users that is different from the older versions would be a giant cosmetic upgrade. Interested? That will have to depend on you. Even though in terms of performance and functionality, the newer Silver River II may at first be 'questionable', it may very well be worth your money and time. You may loathe the new and improved design, but I am here to tell you this enclosure may have more to offer than its sweet and sleek lines. It took four years for Thermaltake to take the Silver River to a new evolution, and as a company notorious for its amazing cooling capabilities, we have already set high standards for this enclosure. This time around, the enclosure boasts of the spectacular and sleek-looking silver lines gracing the riced futuristic designs as well as the most impressive "diamond-cut" finish. Now as 100% of you intelligent people would know, diamonds are a woman's best friend; clearly, Thermaltake wants the enthusiast population to get in on the action (Note that in order to dodge the 'sexist' bullet, I created my own sex: Enthusiast). I mean, the Silver River II allows you to have both "Silver" and "Diamonds" -- kidding. So, is this enclosure good enough to being your HDD's new set of clothes? Or, will it be just another riced up product? Either way, you will have to read on to find out!

We plan to see a huge number of SandForce 2000 Series SSDs this year. SandForce has added even more partners in 2011, Intel being one of them. Even though Big Blue will take a shot at fame with a SandForce 2000 Series product, the Vertex 3 will still be the benchmark in which all others are compared. OCZ has dominated the consumer SSD market for the last several years and transitioned from a company making several products into a company whose primary role is solid state drives.

Have you ever woken up in the morning and wished for a breakfast in bed? I am certain a few of you individuals have experienced this craving, and let me be the first to tell you that the Thermaltake Max 5G is exactly that craving taunter. Now, many of you are probably wondering what I am trying to get at here, so let me clarify -- bacon. Simply put, this hard drive enclosure smells like bacon in my opinion. Thermaltake must have some kind of telekinesis power, because who would make a HDD enclosure that smells like bacon? Let us not get too carried away with the "bacony" goodness of the Max 5G. Many would have expected this "meaty" enclosure to make a lot of noise, considering it incorporates two fans. With two fans, one would at least expect to hear much of the fan noise. However, after turning it on for quite some time, it was actually not too bad. Continuing on with my daily chores, it almost made me think the fans were not even on, but the stylish blue LEDs convinced me otherwise. I am not sure what is with all the blue LED fans that manufactures keep using on almost all the electronics I use, but it is almost getting to the point where my computer is now a glowing blue monster in the middle of the night. Thermaltake sure seems to be messing around my head when it comes to this enclosure. Read on to find out why!

PQI has harnessed the power of the trusty SandForce SF-1200 controller with their line of S535 drives. In an already crowded SATA 3Gbps SSD market, have they managed to eke out more performance to make the drives stand out from their peers? PQI says this drive will reach 250MB/s in both read and write tests in the ATTO Benchmark, so we'll have a look to see how it performs on our test system to see if we can also hit those numbers.

Patriot Memory has constantly delivered speedy flash memory products and the LX Pro Series is no different. The LX Pro delivered speeds up to 18 MB/s and you can currently find the 32GB model for around $60 US making it an exceptional value.

The SSD technology of today is worlds better than what we had in 2009. Better understanding of the technology, mature controllers, Windows 7, SATA 6Gb/sec and even the PCI-e bus have all advanced things to a point where SSDs are coming close to mainstream adoption. Pricing is also much more attractive as evident by the drive we are looking at today, OCZ's Agility 3 240GB unit. The Agility 3 is one of three new SATA 6Gb/sec SSDs and is classified as a high-performance drive alongside the higher-end Vertex 3.

OCZ Technology has another winner on its hands with the RevoDrive X2 100GB PCI Express SSD! It is hard not to be impressed by an SSD that offers read speeds of up to 740MB/s and write speeds of up to 690MB/s. A variety of tests were run on the RevoDrive X2 and a collection of five other "high speed" SSDs, and the RevoDrive X2 was consistently dominant.

A definite plus in the SSD arena these days is the range of configurations available to meet consumer needs. Corsair was one of the first to jump in with its Performance 3 series which is now followed by the Force 3 for those seeking the power of a ‘SandForce Driven’ SSD minus the cost premium seen in enthusiast SSDs such as the Force 3 GT. Today we will be reviewing the Corsair’ Force Series 3 6Gbps 120GB SSD.
