Kingston answered this need a few years ago when they introduced the WiDrive. While this was a fantastic device, it too suffered from limited storage. Kingston listened to feedback and developed the new MobileLite Wireless which builds on the strengths of the WiDrive but takes it one step further by providing a USB port and SD card slot for removable memory.

Auf den Nachfolger der überaus erfolgreichen und gut verkauften Crucial m4 SSD haben sicherlich viele Anwender gewartet, die Ankündigung erfolgte im Januar, dann wurde verschoben und nochmals verschoben. Erst jetzt im Mai ist das neue Crucial M500 SSD Aushängeschild tatsächlich auch bei den Händlern verfügbar, einzige Ausnahme bleibt nach wie vor die 960 GB Variante, die zum avisierten Preis von ca. 510 bis 550 € derzeit bei keinem deutschen Händler erhältlich ist.
Sei es wie es ist, wir testen ohnehin die 240 GB Version für unser Review und bedanken uns an dieser Stelle ausdrücklich bei Caseking, die uns schnell und unbürokratisch ausgeholfen haben. Worin besteht die Zielsetzung von Crucial, welches Marktsegement möchte man bedienen, was sind die Intentionen? diese Fragen stellen sich natürlich, wenn man weiß, dass Crucial für die M500 den neuen Marvell 88SS9187 Controller verwendet, der ja bereits in der Plextor M5 Pro/Xtreme und OCZ Vertex 4 SSD arbeitet und wenn man weiß, das Marvell die finale Programmierung des Controllers den ausliefernden Firmen überlässt, die somit durch entsprechende eigene Profile nicht zuletzt über "Wohl und Wehe" der schnellen Laufwerke entscheiden.
Einerseits will Crucial natürlich dort ansetzen, wo man sich mit der m4 SSD Serie bereits erfolgreich in Szene gesetzt hatte, im Home Desktop Bereich und in aktuellen Notebooks. Benchmark Rekorde und Serverräume bleiben anderen Modellen vorbehalten, hier und jetzt zählen Lebensdauer, Zuverlässigkeit, ein niedriger Energiebedarf und ein attraktives Preisgefüge, im Prinzip steht also die Kundenklientel im Focus, die auch als Interessent für die m4 in Frage kam, nur das die M500 ihren Job etwas schneller verrichtet, zumindest versprechen dies die Werksangaben. Ob und vor allem wie dies realisiert wurde, sehen wir uns jetzt gemeinsam in unserem neuesten SSD Praxis Test an, dazu wünschen wir euch viel Vergnügen....

The EonNAS Pro series is comprised of Infortrend’s SOHO/SMB solutions and they come in 2, 5, or 8 drive variants. For the most part, all of their current x10 models come with 2GB of memory and are powered by an Intel Atom Dual-Core 2.13Ghz Processor. They do have a couple variants of the EonNAS Pro 850 which ramp up the installed memory to 8GB of memory and the processor to an Intel Core i3 Dual Core 3.3Ghz chip. In today’s review, we will be taking a look at the EonNAS Pro 510 specifically, which Infortrend sent to us with 4 x 1TB drives installed.

Seagate is certainly one of the titans when it comes to PC storage options - both consumer and enterprise. It makes sense for them to use their considerable infrastructure to make their mark on the SSD market segment - something they've been slow to do. We found performance on our Seagate 600 240GB drive to be very good with the Link_A_Media Devices (LAMD) LM87800 controller handling all the heavy lifting. The specifications of 550MB/s reads and 450MB/s writes were hit without a problem and even on incompressible data, speeds were solid. IOPS performance was very good as well, exceeding the 80,000/70,000 reads/writes by a bit to place in the upper portion of the comparison list...

The OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD replaces the Agility 4 in OCZ’s mainstream consumer-class SSD line. The OCZ Vertex 3.20 derives its name from the use 20nm MLC flash compared to the previous 25nm of the original. Still utilizing a SandForce 2281 controller, the OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD comes in 120GB and 240 GB capacities with sequential read and write speeds of 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s respectively. Compared to the previous Vertex 3 SSD which had an idle power consumption of 1.65W and active power consumption of 3W, the Vertex 3.20 uses a mere 0.55W on idle and 2.1W while in use. For users concerned about reliability, the OCZ Vertex 3.20 his endurance rated for 20GB/day of host writes for 5 years under typical client workloads and has a MTBF of 2 million hours. As with the Vertex 3 SSD, the Vertex 3.20 supports TRIM (OS dependent) and features SandForce DuraWrite architecture technology which extends flash rated endurance. The OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD is covered by a 3-year warranty including toll-free tech support and firmware updates.

This article not only verifies that LSI SandForces new controller, Codename Griffin, is about to make an amazing transformation in the SSD industry, but also, these blistering speeds will be seen soon enough in ultrabooks.

The SSD world has just taken a massive step forward with the unintended displaying of LSI SandForce next generation flash storage processor, Codenamed GRIFFIN, at Computex this week. Where other websites were noticing the incredible 1.6TB capacity of this SSD, The SSD Review observed that it is a single chip design, LSI SandForce driven, and capable of speeds of 1800MB/s read and write with 200,000 IOPS, all in a typical notebook 2.5”design! Our later attempts to have the story refuted as a mistake in specifications met with negative results and this discovery indeed seems to be 100% authentic. Such performance has guaranteed once again that the original SandForce team, alongside with LSI, has once again made an enormous technological jump in the world of SSDs!
