It has been almost a year since Crucial/Micron introduced their new M500 family and, with that, came the news of what we then termed as a new Crucial M500 NGFF SSD that would be introduced to retail consumers. Today, many are now searching for high-capacity M.2 SSDs both for their purchase and upgrade of new M.2 SSD contained systems, and as a replacement to current systems containing M.2 SSDs. There are absolutely no M.2 retail SSDs available for purchase as we write this report, however, our receipt and review of the first Crucial M500 M.2 SSD just may signal change in the very near future.

Recent designs in the laptop market are now seeing the availability of both an mSATA connector for SSDs, as well as the typical SATA connector for hard drives; the Lenovo Thinkpad is a great example of this. With the demand for additional capacity, we had also seen adapters which allowed for the swapping of optical drives for an additional hard drive. But what about newer models that have eliminated the optical drive altogether, or older models where you don’t want to give up the optical drive?

The Crucial M500 struggled to be competitive performance wise after only a few months of being on the market. This meant that even though the M500 was only introduced about a year ago Crucial needed to give it's SSDs an update. With the introduction of the M550 this much needed update is finally here.

The world of flash drives continues to change and, for the most part, many features we might like to see still aren’t present in today’s solutions. Simple software security that allows a secure folder to store sensitive data, apart from the normal storage area where we can throw daily data, comes to mind right away. And what about lifespan? Even today we wonder just how long our flash drive will really last and what type of performance drop we might see along the way. And then there is the issue of speed….

It’s been awhile since we’ve had an ADATA product on our bench and today we’ll be looking at the ADATA Premiere Pro SP920 512GB SSD that is powered by the Marvell 88SS9189 controller that we’ve seen on a few drives now and know to be very effective. The performance numbers depend heavily on the drive capacity but the 512GB version we received is rated for 560MB/s reads and 500MB/s writes with IOPS numbers reaching 98K/88K for reads/writes. Read on to see how it performs!

Today we look at the hardware encrypted Kingfast Secure USB flash drive. Read on as Tyler gives us the full details on this new device.

Last night while i was discussing the future of hard disk drives with my cousin it just occurred to us that just roughly 5 years ago storage capacities at around the 3.2GB mark were considered as quite large and not everyone could afford even just that. Fast forward to today and things have changed in an massive degree due to the advancement of technology and the continuous price drops since most people own at least a single 2TB (2000GB) drive while others even use several 4TB (4000GB) drives to cover their needs. Of course ultra-high capacities like the second example are primarily useful for people who obviously have huge storage needs (namely professionals) and so casual users are not really included. However for people who do have huge storage needs even 4TB HDDs are not nearly enough to cover those needs and so the recent appearance of 6TB HDDs is without doubt great news. Today we will be taking a look at 3 of the latest Enterprise Capacity 3.5 v4 6TB SATA III hard disk drives by Seagate in both single and RAID0 tests.

Our RAID champion makes another appearance, and this time we've got six 480GB Intel 730K SSD's to max out our Lynx Point chipset. Let's take a look now.
