The DS1513+ NAS from Synology comes with a redesigned enclosure which features removable fans, new screwless trays, 2GB of DDR3 RAM (with the possibility of upgrade to 4GB), an Intel Dual Core CPU at 2.13GHz and no less than four LAN ports with Link Aggregation support.

Synology is well-known for their NAS solutions and today we are taking a closer look at the DS1513+. This NAS is aimed at small to medium businesses and comes equipped with an Intel Atom CPU, 2GB DDR3 and supports up to five 4TB hard drives.

When we look at the number of bays that each and every NAS on the market has to offer, typically we find the bays rising in multiples of 2, although we do find that there are 5 and 7 bay options out there as well for those who want to bridge the price gap between the 4-6 bay price bracket and additionally the 6-8 bay bracket. Typically in the home environment we find users buying 2-4 bay systems and with capacities of up to 16TB on offer, this is generally more than enough to suit the majority of users in this group. On the other end of the scale in the enterprise market, 16-bay systems are not uncommon and in some cases 24-bay systems can be found, but in between these two extreme ends of the market is the SMB (Small-to-Medium-Business) and SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) group of users. At this level in the market, 4 bay systems are ample solutions to go for but in most cases they are just a starting point, with users and businesses soon seeing that they need to go up to a 6 or 8 bay system to suffice their needs. As said though, the price difference in some cases is quite notable and this is where units such as Synology’s DS1513+ come into play.

If you're looking for a NAS with room for plenty of disks that's also fast and user-friendly, then the new Synology DS-1512+ and DS-1812+ are two models that should be on your wish list. They come equipped with the very comprehensive DSM 4.0 firmware, with space for either five or eight hard disks. You do have to reach pretty deep into your wallet for these NAS devices.
Storage
The DS114 is a fast entry-level NAS with room for one disk, and the Disk Station Manager (DSM 4.3) firmware is very versatile and comprehensive. We would still consider spending a little more for a two-disk model such as the DS214, because then you have the option of using a safe RAID 1 mirrored storage solution.
Storage
While it might no longer be the smallest or cheapest NAS that Synology have available, the DS110J is still up there and you can buy it with built in storage if you so choose. It might look a little antiquated, but it still packs Synology’s disk station software which is some of the best we’ve tested.

Today we are glad to introduce another new brand that arrived on our doorstep; Synology. Synology is one of the famous Network Attached Storage (NAS) makers since year 2000 and DS109j is their economical 1-bay SATA NAS server for personal and home use. Besides that Synology DS109j is also equipped with Synology Disk Station Manager 2.1 which comes with luxury of applications and features.
Storage
Entered at the Small and Medium Business platform, the Synology DS1010+ presents a huge storage potential with five drive bay slots each capable of handling up to a 2TB 3.5”/2.5” SATA hard drive; fast file-sharing transfers; and ease of use with the latest version with the Synology GUI – DiskStation Manager 2.3.
Storage
Synology NAS devices are very popular, and with good reason. They generally perform really well, and have lots of features, but their main drawback is always their price. In this review we will take a closer look at the DS413, a NAS which is similar to the DS213+, except that it can fit four disks instead of two.
Storage
If you're looking for a NAS that is compact enough to fit anywhere yet still as powerful as many full-size units, look no further than Synology's DS411 Slim. This tiny box supports up to 4TB of storage while serving up files and providing network services with impressive levels of performance.
