To say that Sandisk is an Innovator in solid state drives would be an understatement as we can all thank them for getting the SSD ball rolling. Sandisk was the first company to release their Sandisk U5000 32GB SSD to the public in 2007 and, on August 18, 2007, I was one of the first to publish a SSD review on the net with my brand new Sandisk SSD.

Believe us when we say that this is one of the most epic reviews we've ever put together. Not because it was the hardest roundup we've ever done, but it's by far the most time consuming one and it doesn't even have anything to do with the benchmarks we ran. We thought it'd be a good idea to do a comparative review of the various USB 3.0 host controllers out there, as by now we've finally reached a stage where there's some competition in the market with at least three major players and a couple of smaller ones. VR-Zone is also proud to have a world exclusive first review of the upcoming Renesas D720201 host controller which is launching later this year as part of this roundup.

Today’s review is on the Super Talent RC8 50 GB USB Flash Drive which just may be the most powerful flash drive on the planet. Who would expect more from a ‘SandForce Driven’ product pushing 8 channels of NAND flash memory? Lets not confuse things though as this USB 3.0 flash drive is a solid state drive through and through. We hope that the tale told by the RC8 in our report will, not only teach you a thing or two about SSDs but also, provide you with a glimpse of the RC8s capabilities in the near future.

In the past few months, the number of SATA-600 solid state drives on the market has increased substantially. So there is now more choice than ever if you're looking to upgrade your computer with a performance SSD. We believe that 120 GB SSDs offer the best compromise between price and capacity as you can combine them with a traditional mechanical hard drive to provide storage capacity for media files and documents. In this review we will be analysing the new Patriot Wildfire 120 GB SSD. Check it out!

A few weeks ago we were sent a SATA II MemoRight 115GB SSD for review and as we expected it got nailed in the performance tests when compared against the latest SATA III SandForce SF-2281 powered drives. MemoRight intervened and asked us to review their latest performance oriented SATA III 240GB solid state drive.

Storing data away from your main PC is important, we’ve well established that by this point. It’s one step in data protection that everyone should be taking to make sure that no matter what happens you don’t lose your all important files.

Back on March 2011, Seagate debuted their original Barracuda XT 3TB hard drive, model ST33000651AS, which used five platters to supply 3000 gigabytes of capacity over a SATA 6.0 GB/s interface. Seven short months later, they've returned to introduce a replacement: the Seagate Barracuda 3TB hard drive ST3000DM001, which features the same 6 GB/s interface and 64MB cache buffer but now utilizes only three 1GB density platters. Seagate has also introduced a number of refined technologies to help improve overall hard drive performance, including: dual core 40nm processor technology, DDR2 DRAM buffer, and refined caching algorithms. By reducing disc platters from five to three, it prolongs servo motor life and reduces heat output. Benchmark Reviews compared these two hard drives, to see exactly what's been gained.
