Over the last few years, the NAS market as a whole has been growing at a steady rate and in when we start to break things down and look at the rate of growth in the individual market sectors, the rate of sales in the consumer group has seen a far greater growth than any other market sector. Part of this growth is down to market exposure where users are seeing far more units on offer through both the retail and e-tail channels; however the price is a more crucial factor and this is what is now bringing the NAS concept into the limelight for the SOHO market. When we go back two to three years and look at the total cost of ownership; that’s the cost of purchasing the NAS itself along with drives to store data on then with the cost of running the unit – things were not looking that good and the price of one of a typical 4-bay system in some instances was easily a four-figure sum of money – in other words, simply too much of a cost to swallow considering you could easily buy a set of drives and whack them into your desktop system for a whole lot less.

Perhaps one of the hottest tech items to hit in the last year is the ultrabook, a laptop typically measuring under 1/2″ thick, weighing less than 3 lbs, having performance as high as 1GB/s transfer speeds and being capable of up to ten hours battery life. As new and amazing as the ultra is, the consumer also learned of the solid state drive and, more specifically, the mSATA SSD measuring 1/3 the size of a credit card, just over 3mm thick and weighing just under 7gm. As with any other new technology, such things as storage capacity are considered premium and, even now, we are seeing systems sell for as much as $500-$750 more, simply the result of a storage upgrade from 120 to 240GB. The smart consumer is one who buys the lower capacity system with full intent of upgrading the SSD themselves and, in doing so, saves themselves hundreds of dollars.

The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive is a small device, less than half the size of your average cell phone. It has an aesthetically pleasing look to it, as well. So what does it do? Well, in short, it’s a way to add storage to your wireless multimedia devices. It broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network, which you connect to with your wireless device, and streams audio/video content.

The controversy surrounding OCZs lack of inclusion of the Revo 3x2 240GB SSD in its product specifications is about to come to an end. The SSD Review has just received word from Jessica Luken, Global Marketing Director of OCZ, that the Revo 3x2 240GB version is prepping for release and has a product code of RVD3X2-FHPX4-240G - 84202402723. Can you say 200,000 IOPS for under $700? Most likely the result of our Revo 3x2 review title, "1.5GB/s Read 1.25GB/s Write As Little As $699", The SSD Review was flooded with e-mails asking for confirmation after OCZ initially posted Revo 3x2 information, listing only 480 and 960GB configurations of the Revo 3x2. Results of our queries at that time resulted in the quote "Down The Road" and threads flooded the internet with the theme, 'What happened to the Revo 3x2 240GB?'

If transfer speeds are important to you, the Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive is certainly the drive to purchase. Our tests show you can write a 1GB file in less than ten seconds and read that same 1GB file in six seconds. When we first caught wind of the Adaptec Series 7 RAID adapters late last year, we were itching for the chance to get it in our test bench. But, in order to do the review justice, we needed SSDs. We needed a LOT of SSDs. We needed 24 SSDs. Unfortunately, sampling even 4 or 8 SSDs at one time is often difficult. That is why we jumped at the chance to test out the Adaptec ASR-72405 with 24 x SMART Optimus 200GB SAS SSDs.

Today we are looking at the Kingston Mobilelite Wireless, a portable SD card reader with WiFi capabilities. Zardon reviewed the Kingston Wi-Drive earlier this year and found it to be ”a very useful device at a very competitive price point.” Like the Wi-Drive, the Mobilelite Wireless is aimed at Android and Apple users while those with a Windows phone will have to wait for their version of the app needed to use the reader.
