It took practically forever to get our hands on Plextor’s M5 Pro Xtreme. The drive was launched in February or there about. In terms of an SSD’s marketable lifespan that’s a really long time ago. What this means is the M5 Pro has been a top tier enthusiast drive in the same class as OCZ’s Vector, Samsung’s 840 Pro, and the newly launched SanDisk Extreme II all along.

It is quite incredible how many models QNAP release and how often they are updated but this is due to the relatively cheap prices of large mechanical hard drives and end user demand for ever growing storage space. QNAP were established in Taiwan in 2004 and are well known for their build quality and sophisicated software packages. The QNAP TS-639 Pro is based on the same platform as the TS 509 Pro which we reviewed a while ago and as such now supports iSCSI integration as standard.

With a read and write speed of 28MB/s and 24MB/s the Xporter Rage XT 32GB lived up to its claimed speeds using Patriot’s Quad Channel technology. wrapped in a small package the Rage XT is ideal for travel and with its read and write speeds is sure to save you time moving your files around

Today we have three SSD's on our test bench from Intel, Patriot and Super Talent. Each has a different capacity and cost but all will be placed through a selection of synthetic and real world tests to establish which drive is ideal for consumers first leap into the SSD market.

When it comes to building tough, nearly indestructible hardware, no one excels better than the United States military. These are the same people responsible for the development of the Hummer, Abrams Tank, AR15 and many other kick your butt up and down the globe projects that we don't even know about. Military specifications are the benchmark for all which many products are judged and many of those products fall short of military expectations.

We all have products that use the Secure Digital Cards. SD has been adapted by nearly all consumer product makers in one form or another. Which form is another story entirely, as there are so many and within each category there are speed ratings. Some devices need to be able to operate above a certain speed to be able to handle the tasks given. This is where the class structure comes in.

The 3 drive SanDisk Extreme II array broke a lot of lab records today and clearly displayed that SanDisk has on their hands a top tier drive capable of jaw dropping performance.

The Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme 256GB SSD is an amazing product. It has the Marvell 88SS9187 controller and Toshiba Toggle NAND flash, so it's super fast. As well, this drive has true protect data integrity and AES data encryption. Also, it's very reliable with a MTBF of 2.4 million and comes with a 5 year warranty.

It's no secret that larger capacity SSDs are faster than the smaller capacity drives. The way data travels can be similar to a highway system, the more lanes a highway has the more cars you can push through at the same time. If SSDs only read and wrote on a one lane highway then we would be limited to less than 200MB/s on the highest rated flash available today. By opening up several lanes drives are able to reach very high speeds and do so without the limits of moving parts.
