Today for review I’ve got the Kingston SSDNow V Series 128gb SSD, but it’s not just the drive I have as they sent me the Notebook bundle kit. The last Kingston SSD I reviewed was the 40gb SSDNow V desktop upgrade kit so getting this one makes a nice contrast to the other. These new SSD drives from Kingston are faster than the first generation and their main new feature is the addition of TRIM support now. It might be named the notebook bundle but the drive can be used fro anything as you might expect, but to make things easier for those of us that want to upgrade our notebooks Kingston included a rather nice USB enclosure so you can clone your SSD via USB quickly and easily. In the following review I’ve compared the new Kingston SSDnow V to the last generation and to another value priced SSD I’ve got on hand, I also decided to toss the SSDNow V drive into a USB3.0 enclosure and test it that way to see the results. So read on to see the comparison and learn more about the new Kingston SSDnow V SSD…

Today for review I've got another NAS box from QNAP called the TS-259 Pro. This box can use either 2.5” or 3.5” drives and features an Intel Atom Processor along with one gig of DDR2 ram. The TS-259 Pro also features five USB ports along with two eSATA ports and two gigabit ethernet connections as well. I've put it up against the Thecus N3200 pro that I've been using for over a year now and found that it's a bit faster, so read on..

Today I will be reviewing an external HDD enclosure from Icy Box called “IB-318STU3-B” (wonderful name). It has a USB 3.0 interface which should boost the data transfer speeds significantly, at least according to the specs. Only months ago, the third revision of the USB standard appeared. I’ve seen it called both “USB 3.0” and “USB SuperSpeed”.

When it comes to portable storage there are two different improvements everyone is interested in hearing about_: capacity and transfer speeds. One of the newest ones to hit the market is the advent of the new USB standard, USB 3.0. Today we're looking at a Startech package that gives you not only a hard drive dock supporting the new port, but also a PCI-E card giving you a pair of USB3 ports to make sure you're fully compatible.

The more solid state drives grow in popularity, the larger the need to make them affordable. As it sits now, companies are choosing between two paths to achieve low priced drives. The first has been to extend the lifecycle for current products on the market, either leaving the existing model numbers in tact or releasing a new product SKU based on existing technology. A good example of this is the Corsair Nova, a slightly revised Indilinx Barefoot controlled drive that is very close to the original Performance Series offered by Corsair last year.

Last week Crucial released a firmware update that fixed the issues with TRIM and even though Crucial spent many hours testing the software, a compatibility issue popped up with some popular enthusiast motherboards and the firmware update tool, so the new update was pulled from Crucial’s website. With V2 firmware now out of reach for consumers, Crucial is working feverously to get a new update tool ready. At anytime the firmware and new update tool will be released and it appears that Crucial is going to be able to escape heavy criticism from both the tech media and consumers. We will cover this topic more in our next installment of The State of Solid State coming just after Computex.

Was bringt SATA 6 Gb/s für Festplatten?
