We are still a few days away from CES 2012, but the eleventh annual Storage Visions Conference is well underway. We were able to take a look at some unreleased products from Intel, Crucial, OCZ and ioSafe that are worth a look if you are interested in storage. The next generation of SSDs promise more performance with additional focus on reliability. Read on to see what the highlights of the show were for us.

A few weeks ago we posted a review on the SanDisk Extreme II 240GB capacity SSD and it turned out to be one of the stronger contenders we have seen to date, and most definitely the strongest using a Marvell controller. We wanted to today follow that up with an analysis of that same drive, this time in the 480GB capacity, as a form of confirmation that this SSD has what it takes to stand up there with the best.

Many have known of the quality and performance of the Intel X25-M 80GB solid state drive since it was released in 2008, so nothing new may have been revealed by this review. But, by taking a look at it while going head-to-head with a couple of high performance drives released in 2010, it can be appreciated in a whole new way.

Following up on our recent review of the ADATA XPG SX300 mSATA SSD, we are now going to be running a similar analysis of the 256GB version of the same family. We have been curious as to what this particular review would hold, as we had done a review of the MyDigitalSSD SMART 256GB mSATA SSD some time ago and identification of that mSATA SSD displayed that it was a rebranded XPG SX300 256GB device exactly as we are testing today.

Transferring files between 2 computers has been made extremely easy for a while now with flash drives. These devices are small enough to fit in our pocket, deliver fast transfer speeds, and can hold quite a lot of data. Today we are taking a look at one of Kingston’s latest flash drives. Announced this year at CES the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 is a USB 3.0 drive that features read speeds of up to 150 MB/s and write speeds up to 70 MB/s. The drive has a solid metal matte finish and retractable design that protects the USB connection when it is not in use. Today we have the 64GB version on hand to see what it can do!

Seagate has introduced a new modular external storage system, dubbed the GoFlex series. This system allows you to purchase a simple bare drive, buy only the interfaces you need, and hot-swap between them without a fuss. Currently you can choose between USB 2.0, USB 3.0, eSATA and Firewire 800, which covers just about every computer and media device made today or in the conceivable future.

This SSD report will be a detailed analysis of the OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G SSD, the first and only third party SSD compatible with the new 2012 MacBook Air. This report will also carry things a step further by detailing our migration of the Aura Pro into our 2012 MBA, a system that we had successfully set up with Boot Camp as a dual Boot OS X Lion/Win 7 system. To speak of how things went, we are writing this report up on our new ‘OWC Charged’ MBA.

Today we’ll be reviewing the HighPoint RocketStor 5322 eSATA drive dock. This is HighPoint’s latest 2 bay drive dock which not only features eSATA 6Gb/s, but it has two eSATA 6Gb/s controllers onboard. This allows each individual bay on the RocketStor 5322 the capability of up to a 6Gb/s theoretical transfer rate. Because of this, the dock is fully capable of simultaneous...
