It’s the attack of the SandForce clones! Can any heroic atomic-powered SSD come to save us? Does Corsair’s Neutron have what it takes to rescue our PC in distress? Will the hordes of the positively-charged solid-state armies be neutralized in time? Tune in this week (or now) to find out!

What I do really like about the Corsair Neutron GTX is that its performance is always predictable. There is no need to worry if the SSD will slow down when faced with writing incompressible data, it simply won’t. In fact, I’m quite sure that is the reason that the Corsair Neutron GTX and the OCZ Vertex 4 stand head and shoulders above the other SSDs in this article

When we recently reviewed the Corsair Neutron drive with the new Link_A_Media Devices LM87800 controller, we were duly impressed with the initial offering for this yet untested controller but we didn't get the chance to see it really shine until now. The Neutron GTX is a souped-up version which pushes the SATA 6Gbps interface to the limits. We take a look at performance and, now that both have been on the open market for a bit, also look to see how they are holding up on consumer machines.

As expected, pairing a couple of drives like the Neutron GTX's which already put up superb performance numbers singularly, really kicks up performance to a whole new level. In fact, in most of our tests, the throughputs nearly doubled from what we saw on a single drive. With the LAMD controller, we barely saw any difference between compressible and incompressible data which translates to a more even real world experience...

The Neutron GTX is set to top the Neutron series of drives, so can the LAMD controller really take things to the next level?

Not long ago, we wrote about the Corsair Neutron base model with new 22nm SK Hynix flash. Today Chris walks us through the flagship GTX model that now features new 19nm Toggle flash from Toshiba.

If you’re multi-tasking user that often deals with compressed data like videos, music and other compressed data then you really can’t do much better than Corsairs’ Neutron GTX series. Neutrons have the smoothest most consistent performance of any drives we’ve ever reviewed as well as the most consistent performance over time as the drive becomes well used. Consistency is valued more than any other trait in the enterprise sector and because the LAMD Amber FSP at the heart of Neutron was born from the enterprise sector it’s really no surprise that Neutrons have superior consistency over time than any other consumer based drives.

The Neutron series of SSDs introduce a new LAMD controller, so lets see how this shakes up a SandForce dominated market.

If, like us, you're ready for something fresh in the SSD market you're in for a treat. Corsair has launched their Neutron series of SSDs with a brand new controller from Link_A_Media Devices and the results of our benchmarks show it to be a serious competitor. Should the other drive makers be looking over their shoulder? Have a look to see what we have to say about it.
