As most PC enthusiasts know, the right choice of storage media - particularly for the operating system - can make or break the entire build. Earlier this year we reviewed the Vector and Vertex 3.20, two of OCZ's latest SSD offerings and judging by the Kingston data sheet their HyperX 3K looks to bring an equal challenge to the table. Touting 555MB/s sequential reads and 510MB/s writes, the HyperX 3K 240GB SSD offers impressive performance courtesy of the Sandforce 2 controller... all with a three year warranty.

The Micron P420m, announced earlier this summer, is a half-height, half-length (HHHL) PCIe storage device that augments Micron’s PCIe enterprise storage line. The P420m has a lot to live up to. If you remember back to last October, we reviewed the Micron P320h and came away thoroughly impressed. Massive amounts of speed, endurance and parallelism were at our disposal. With the P420m, Micron is at it again, but this time they brought MLC NAND to the table instead of the bulletproof SLC NAND they used in the P320h.

Class leading capacity, good pricing, along with ample performance ushers in the next generation of small form factor external storage from ADATA.

Silicon Power has recently launched a mainstream SSD with decent transfer speeds and a lower 7mm height in order to increase the compatibility and include ultrabooks and other slim devices to the list. Besides the 16 NAND Flash chips, the SSD also features a 72-bit processor from Phison, the PS3108-S8-1 and also 512MB of DDR3 RAM for caching purposes.

PCIe SSDs are a funny animal as they have been out for a few years yet haven't really caught on just yet. They are very limited to either very expensive and system specific enterprise variations or require driver installation that isn't always as simple as instructions seem. We have yet to see an affordable plug and play PCIe SSD solution that has the 'get up and go' workset without the need for driver installation and thoughts of compatibility issues that keep most from PCIe purchase.
At the consumer level, the indisputed king of the hill is still the OCZ Revo 3x2 PCIe SSD which is LSI SandForce based, capable of speeds up to 1.5GB/s and can be had under the $700 mark. That price point will leave them in that position, as they have been for years now without a true competitor, at least until we see what their upcoming Vector PCIe release has in store. The stage just might be set this next year with Mushkin, Mach Xtreme and KingSpec all jumping in with PCIe SSDs of their own and with an interesting variation, they are driver-less and a simple plug and play solution.

Most people that i know of that are professionals either in the video editing business or in graphics designing own several Terabytes of data while some of them working for some of the leading movie studios have as much as 120TBs of total storage. I am certainly not excluding ourselves since currently for backup purposes along we using exactly 28TBs and that's without including the 22TBs which we have attached on all 3 of our test rigs for daily use. Unfortunately although storage capacity needs get higher each day that goes by we still haven't seen any 5TB hard disk drive models get unveiled from all the leading manufacturers and although both HGST and Seagate have announced technologies that should allow the manufacture of mechanical drives up to 20TB in capacity (if not more since technology advances all the time) by the end of this decade that's really of little concern right now. Still sales of 4TB drives have been increasing steadily around the globe and since some of you asked today we will be taking a look at the latest Touro Desk Pro 4TB USB 3.0 External HDD by HGST.
