The DS214play is equipped with the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Evan Sport CPU. The processor has an integrated video encoder which allows the NAS to transcode video files in real-time so they can be sent to media players and mobile devices. They demonstrated the DS214play in combination with an Apple TV, which only supports a limited amount of file types. We’ve tested a few Synology products here at XSR over the past couple of years, but they’ve always been big Diskstations with plenty of storage capacity, or the physical space to add a large ammount of your own. Today I’m looking at something a little different. It still has Station in the name, but it won’t be building any “Good robot Us’es“, this one is a USB variant. No storage space of its own, but able to use your network and attached drives as its own personal data bank

With the amount of USB devices that you can attach to your computer, people are always running out of room for them. Well, today we’ve got the Synology USB Station 2, which plugs directly into your router to allow access to any USB device over your network. It’s small and can be placed anywhere, but how well will it perform? Let’s find out…
