On our table today we have the Silicon Power Velox V70 SATA 3 SSD where SP is another to combine the power of the LSI SandForce SF-2281 Flash Storage Processor (FSP) with Intel synchronous MLC memory. If NAND alone makes great partners, the V70 is in good hands as we have seen the same type and capacity in the OCZ Vertex 4, Kingston HyperX, ADATA XPG SX900, Comay Venus 3, as well as a few other top rated SSDs.

Western Digital went with a black plastic casing on the My Passport 2TB that is adorned with a circular pattern and the WD logo and product name. The My Passport is rather small and measures in at just 111mm x 82mm x 21mm or 4.37" x 3.24" x 0.82" with a weight of eight ounces. This might sound large to some, but it isn't much bigger than an Apple iPhone 4S and easily fits in your pocket unless you are wearing skinny jeans...

Plextor, best known for manufacturing optical drives, has finally stepped into the SSD market with the PX-128M1S, a 128GB drive that uses multilevel cell (MLC) NAND flash memory. The PX-128M1S is a 2.5", SATA 3Gb/s drive, which makes it compatible with most notebooks. It can also be installed into a desktop computer with use of a mounting bracket (not included). With a capacity of 128GB, the Plextor PX-128M1S is well-suited as a boot drive. Unlike 64GB drives which can be a little tight in that regard, you'll have enough space to install Windows, everyday applications like Microsoft Office.

“Those of us close to SSDs watch e-tailer customer reviews very carefully as they can provide a very accurate view of SSDs from those that matter most, SSD owners. In the case of the Samsung 840 Series TLC SSD, its success is counted in 446 of 470 reviews as being 4-star or higher, which seems to dispel original predictions many had of the success of TLC memory. Let’s take a look at our top SSD choices for May 2013 along with our thoughts on each…”
