Kitguru has been very impressed with the full range of Synology products over the last year. They have been targeting a wide demographic … from the enthusiast user on a strict budget, to large businesses and corporations who demand ultimate performance. Today we are looking at their new RackStation RS3411xs which can scale up to 100TB to satisfy the demands of an intensive business environment.

The name Kingston is one of the most recognizable ones when it comes to memory storage, and in the past here at Myce we had the opportunity to take an in-depth look at some of their products such as the HyperX 3K and also the more affordable V+ 200. Kingston has now introduced a new member to the V series, the V300, which is Kingston’s latest SSD that is only 7mm thick, making it an ideal replacement for your ultrabook but also an excellent choice for a desktop upgrade. Kingston’s V300 not only offers a 7mm drive but also comes at a very attractive price, and comparing that with the usual high standards that we expect from Kingston, it should be a very obvious choice.

The OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD replaces the Agility 4 in OCZ’s mainstream consumer-class SSD line. The OCZ Vertex 3.20 derives its name from the use 20nm MLC flash compared to the previous 25nm of the original. Still utilizing a SandForce 2281 controller, the OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD comes in 120GB and 240 GB capacities with sequential read and write speeds of 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s respectively. Compared to the previous Vertex 3 SSD which had an idle power consumption of 1.65W and active power consumption of 3W, the Vertex 3.20 uses a mere 0.55W on idle and 2.1W while in use. For users concerned about reliability, the OCZ Vertex 3.20 his endurance rated for 20GB/day of host writes for 5 years under typical client workloads and has a MTBF of 2 million hours. As with the Vertex 3 SSD, the Vertex 3.20 supports TRIM (OS dependent) and features SandForce DuraWrite architecture technology which extends flash rated endurance. The OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD is covered by a 3-year warranty including toll-free tech support and firmware updates.

One of the many benefits of full tower PC cases are the many 5.25" optical drive bays they have (5 or more) so if you happen to own one there's no doubt you will most probably look for ways to make use of them. Personally i always use at least two in each of my test rigs one to mount a fan controller (two 5.25" bays sometimes) and the other to either mount a DVD-ROM or a Blu-Ray drive. Lately however we've started testing several 5.25" hard drive cages inside which you can mount up to four 3.5/2.5" SATA/SAS drives by making use of just three 5.25" optical drive bays. A few weeks back we tested the BPN-DE340SS hot-swap storage bay adapter by iStarUSA which not only managed to keep the temperatures of the SATA III drive we used for testing at a minimum but surprisingly enough it also improved its read/write data transfer speeds. Well today on our primary test rig we have it's cousin the BPU-340SATA military grade hot-swap drive cage.
