Close to a month ago we took a look at the Corsair Force 40GB SSD powered by the fabulous SandForce SF-1200 controller and determined it to be fast, but without a desktop adapter the value was lacking for some users. Today we are looking at a nearly identical drive, but this time the cost of ownership is lower and the overall cost is reduced with the inclusion of a 2.5 to 3.5” desktop adapter bracket.

Personally I’ve always had a positive view of Crucial as a company – and have bought quite a bit of RAM from them in the past. Additionally, I have always found them to offer good products for great value. Today I’ll be looking at the Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB (with O/S Transfer kit). Let’s see if it fits with my previous experience of offering good value for money.

Storage data while being transmitted is anything but efficient and when it comes to flow, well, that is what HighPoint is trying to open up with their new RocketRAID Switching Architecture series of products. At Computex in Taipei I visited the HighPoint booth to learn about this new line of products, but to be honest it was so far out there that I really didn't believe what I was seeing.

Hard drive capacities are expanding so fast it is easy to think, "Who actually uses a whole terabyte!?" But as storage space increases, so does the demand for fatter content. Managing even a gigabyte of files can be a cumbersome task, just imagine what it will be like to corral 1000 times that many files. "Where did that file just get saved?" To address this growing problem Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has evolved the portable hard drive by marrying the hardware with built-in content management software. Benchmark Reviews got hold of a 500 GB version of one of these new drives. Model HLSMPUA5001ABB is part of the LifeStudio Mobile Plus series and geared towards small and large storage portability. Benchmark Reviews will analyze this new breed of storage technology to see what the LifeStudio line has to offer.

Designed with enthusiast notebook computers in mind, the WD5000BEKT Scorpio Black high performance hard drive delivers the capacity and speed needed to supercharge a notebook PC without compromising battery life or quiet acoustics. We put it to the test and compare it to the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 and XT 500GB notebook hard drives in a number of benchmarks to see how they perform!

At CES this past January QNAP announced their new Intel Atom powered line of products. The flagship model from this new line is the rackmount TS-859U-RP, the system that we are reviewing today. The dual core Atom processor allows QNAP to run applications quickly, reduce costs and reduce the amount of power required to operate it. QNAP's flagship TS-809U-RP, an Intel Core2Duo powered system is still available, but the beefy additional hardware also comes with some additional cost. The 859U-RP is a happy medium between cost and performance and can even be used in a home or small office environment since it doesn't sound like a jet taking flight when in use.

When we last looked at an OCZ product, the Vertex 2, we awarded it our Gold Award and scored it 9/10 and 10/10 in every aspect. So when we saw that they were one of the first manufacturers to release an SSD based on USB 3.0 technology we were keen to try it out. Today we have that SSD connected to our test bench and will be putting it through a selection of tests, including the all-important real world transfer test to find out how it compares to USB 2.0 based mechanical and flash based devices.
