I am very pleased with the Lite-On eNAU108. The small form factor and light weight allows great portability. Also, the drive does not require an external power supply – it is completely powered from the USB interface. The read and write speeds are nothing special but for a device that is made to be portable, they are great and were attained by the drive during testing.

Today we have one of Crucials new SSDs, the 256GB m4, connected to our P67 system and will be running it through a selection of real world and synthetic tests to establish how it compares to the Intel 510 series and OCZ Vertex 3. In addition to that we will also throw in the C300 and a first generation SandForce drive to see where this new model sits.

Today for review I’ve got a little NAS box from Qnap called the TS-219P. It supports two 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard drives and is truly feature packed with the ability to become your main network storage device at home and while on the go. Not only is it for storage and backups, you can stream from it, use it as a mini-surveillance system, a web sever, or even a stand alone torrent machine.

Aimed mostly towards professionals and enthusiasts the latest RevoDrive Hybrid 1TB PCI Express Storage Solution by OCZ combines the breathtaking read/write speeds of the RevoDrive3 PCI-E SandForce based SSD with the large capacity of a 1TB 2.5inch hard disk drive, all in one very convenient package.

In the last few months the budget end of the storage market has moved on as a result of the high end changing and now we have low cost versions of the Sandforce and Marvell drives available. So today we take a look at models from Corsair and Crucial, as well as two low cost alternatives from Intel and OCZ to establish whether they are worthwhile purchases for those looking to try an SSD.

Just as technology enjoys an ongoing evolution, OCZ Technology improves upon their design with each new solid state drive series. High-performance hardware enthusiasts were recently offered the Vertex 450 to replace the aging Vertex 4, and now mainstream enthusiasts have the Vector 150 to replace the end-of-life Vector SSD. Featuring an Indilinx Barefoot 3 BF3-M00 controller that supports 19nm Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash components by Toshiba with secure AES-256 data encryption and Trim support, Vector 150 is good for 550 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write speeds over a SATA 6-Gb/s connection. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the 240GB OCZ Vector 150 SSD, model VTR150-25SAT3-240G, against the leading competition.

The new SATA-Express standard may be just around the corner both in terms of compatible mainboards, cards and drives but that obviously isn't reason enough to stop most SSD manufacturers from launching their next generation models based on SATA III. The list of names is quite long but as expected the main players like Kingston, Toshiba, Samsung, Crucial, Corsair and OCZ are the first ones to do so (and the ones that interest us the most since they have the largest piece of the market). A few days ago we had the chance to test the Q Series Pro 256GB SSD by Toshiba and although far from excellent it did provide surprisingly good read & write performance at a very tempting price tag. Today we'll be taking a higher end SSD model for a ride to see how well it does the brand new M550 256GB by Crucial.

The Western Digital Scorpio Black Series are known to be some of the fastest 7200 notebook hard drives that money can buy. The largest capacity drive in the Scorpio Black family is the 750GB drive that goes by model number WD7500BPKT. We take a look at this 750GB monster to see how this 7200 RPM drive with 16 MB of cache performs on the test bench and then in a notebook for some real world testing!

The MasterDrive SX is one of the latest offerings by Super Talent.
Using a Samsung controller, Super Talent is relying on proven technology to bring the best to your PC. The 128MB of DRAM cache offers some of the fastest random access rates and transfer times I've seen. The sequential speeds are in the 200MB/s range and show little difference whether the drive is brand new or completely full. If I had to nitpick the drive and find a flaw, it would be the short 1 year warranty Super Talent is offering where other manufacturers are up in the 10 year mark. Despite that, Super Talent has a winner on their hands.
