It is no secret that the popularity of mSATA SSDs is being pushed around just a bit by M.2 PCIe design. M.2 SSDs may even tempt us with a great deal more power for the punch and capacity down the road. What M.2 doesn’t have, as of yet, is just about every popular ultra book in the world in their pocket and that is where mSATA SSDs feel secure. It is kind of like the SATA 2 to SATA 3 move made in SSDs where, as much as SATA 3 is faster and makes sense, 99.8% of the population uses SATA 2. You can imagine that we were more than a bit surprised when our expected receipt of a 512GB Toshiba Client notebook SSD not only included a 256GB mSATA form factor as well, but also, we think this is the first official shot of their new Client M.2 PCIe SSD in the wild; it being 512GB as well. Although we are not to sure about placement of the notebook SSD variation article, we can guarantee that the M.2 SSD will be fully reviewed soon enough on our sister site, The SSD Review We are off on a flight half way around the world early tomorrow am and returning Friday so expect the M.2 posting on TSSDR early next week.

It's been a long time since we looked at a dual bay NAS product. Most have disappointed us, and others never worked as advertised. Infortrend did something a little different with the EonNAS Pro 200 - they used a real processor and a liberal amount of DRAM. The result is pretty good, but quality doesn't come cheap.

Corsair has only just released its first multifunction software utility for Corsair branded SSDs. The new tool is simply called 'Corsair SSD Toolbox', but for many Corsair SSD users, it's exactly what they've been waiting for."

Nearly a year ago, we reviewed the Kingston SSDNow E100 200GB and found it to be “exquisite”. ”It could even be one of the finest MLC-based second-gen LSI LSI SandForce drives” we raved. That’s pretty high praise for an enterprise SSD. Since that time, a lot has changed in the enterprise market. As we have discussed in previous reviews, a new category of enterprise SSDs has emerged; one that combines the low costs of MLC devices with enterprise SSD features, such as power loss protection. With its new SSDNow E50, Kingston is the latest company to venture into this market.

The OCZ Technology 60GB Agility solid state drive offers impressive performance in both read and write testing. It came close to achieving its rated sequential read speed of 230MB/s in each benchmark, but what was particularly impressive was that it consistently exceeded its rated sequential write speed of 135MB/s.

The Patriot Memory Xporter Rage 16GB USB flash drive is marketed with a focus on its high speed performance. The read speeds were definitely impressive, and it was capable of exceeding 30MB/s transfer rates. When it comes to writing, the drive can put up decent speeds, but during testing it never came close to the published specification of 25MB/s.

It is almost unfair to call Synology's DiskStation DS212 a NAS server. It is capable of so much more than simply providing network attached storage, that a different classification should be established. Sure, it does a great job as a NAS, but owning one simply to serve files on a network would be like buying a really nice Swiss Army knife just for the tooth pick.
