I've been reporting on solid state drive technology since it made a retail debut back in February 2008, nearly five years ago. From the very start I've been a huge proponent of all things SSD, as it closes the gap between the fastest computer system components (processor followed by memory) and the slowest (data storage drive). But as speeds grew increasingly faster with each new generation, there's still one giant gap that remains: price. The cost of components has dropped year after year, but today the vast majority of low capacity entry-level SSDs still fetch about $1/GB compared to less than $0.20/GB for high-performance hard disk drive technology. We were kind of expecting it, but it's nice to see concrete proof that mSATA SSDs are as fast as their 2.5-inch counterparts, despite their small size. The Adata SX300 128GB scores almost exactly the same in every benchmark as the Adata SX900 128GB that is based on the same controller. The Crucial m4 256GB mSATA performs the same as the standard m4 256GB.

I've always said that NAS units/servers would one day enter our homes in numbers (meaning most of us would own at least one) but it seems that we're getting there a lot faster than i had originally anticipated since not only many of you keep asking for such reviews but sales of low/mid-end NAS units/servers all over the globe increase day by day mostly by end users. Now because of that we will keep our focus on testing all the latest single/dual/quad bay NAS units/servers since such reviews are both what most of you ask and also because most low/mid-end models feature one, two or four HDD bays.
