Flash drives have become commodity products and everyone has at least one. Most people, even those technology challenged folks even have a small stack of these drives tucked into their purses and piled on their desks. For most a thumb drive is a thumb drive and they don’t see much of a difference between them. Looking at the flash drive section at the big box stores and it becomes apparent that many manufacturers are willing to let this go on. In many cases we found that performance data wasn’t published on the retail packaging, leaving end users to just assume speeds and make their purchases based on price and capacity alone.

Everybody needs a lot more digital storage these days, even your grandma. Most people have tons of music, videos, photos, and documents all in digital format. An average person's digital collection of media would easily fill several rooms if they were in a "physical" format. It's always handy to have several portable hard drives on you; some people use it for backup, others for transferring files between places, and some use them just because they've run out of room elsewhere. I usually find myself in the last scenario, even though I have multiple terabytes on a home network.

If you follow the solid state drive market, you may have heard some of the reviewers talk about a tool released by OCZ called the OCZ Toolbox. OCZ released this tool for reviewers many months ago and asked us to keep it under wraps while they perfected this application.
