When you copy the contents of a hard disk from a PC or laptop to an SSD you have to make sure that the placement of the partitions corresponds to the underlying hardware structure. The same is true for the latest generation of hard disks. Today we'll discuss what this so-called '4k alignment' really means and what you can do in order to prevent a decrease in performance.

While Chris, our head SSD guru guy, was in Taiwan for Computex, we thought we should hit up our friends at A-DATA and see if we could arrange a personal tour of their Taipei factory. On Monday 7th of June, still a little exhausted and also sick from the craziness of the busy show, we headed on down and got things rolling.

The sudden loss of factory hard drive capacity seems to be a common occurrence with very large capacity hard drives. Here's what typically happens; a large capacity hard drive of between 500GB, 750GB, 1TB and 1.5TB suddenly appears to loose most of its capacity for no apparent reason. In many situations the hard drive shrinks to 32MB and becomes inaccessible to the Windows Vista. Rest assured, in this Guide PCSTATS will tell you how to easily fix this bug and reclaim the full factory capacity of your hard drive.

Hard drive docks have become as common as external enclosures and it seems everyone is making them. The docks out there all seem the same basic design, but the one I have today is very much different. For review today I have the Hornettek Slipper U3 HDD docking station. The name is interesting but fitting as you just literally slip your hard drive into the dock. The Slipper can use either 2.5” or 3.5” drives and is USB 3.0 capable for maximum transfer speeds. "

Today we’re looking at Hornettek’s “SHARK” 2.5-inch SATA drive enclosure. You take your existing 2.5” drive and put in the enclosure and voila! Portable drive! The SHARK utilizes USB 3.0 technology, giving it an edge over comparable products still using USB 2.0. Crafted from Aluminum, the enclosure is definitely one designed with the aesthetic-oriented tech crowd in mind. Keeping this in mind, does it keep up in terms of performance too? Read on to find out more...

Today I’ve got another USB hard drive enclosure for review. I figured it might make sense to follow another one after the Gauntlet review I posted yesterday. Today I have one from Hornettek called the Shark, yes it’s an interesting name for sure for an external enclosure, but it’s not a bed product. The Shark is both metal and plastic, the outer shell is metal for protection and heat dissipation while the inner tray is plastic to help keep the weight down.

Up for review today I’ve got a little gadget that I think can come in quite handy especially if you travel. The product is called the HooToo TripMate HT-TM01 and it does many things that I think you might be interested in knowing all about. The HT-TM01 is a router, it’s a bridge, it’s an access point, it’s a NAS and it’s a backup battery for your devices. This little all-in-one will work as a NAS on Android or iOS via an app you can download, or you can access it right from your computer to stream or transfer files back and forth to a USB flash or USB hard drive. To use it as a router you just need to plug in an Ethernet cable and you’re basically all set with a wireless network up and running in a few minutes. The battery inside is 5200mAh in capacity so, depending on the device you’re charging, you can get plenty of extra talk or play time from it. So read on to learn more about what I think is a handy little gadget…

The Hitachi/LG BH20L is capable of burning Blu-ray discs up to 6x. While it is not the fastest Blu-ray burner available, it is cost effective and reliable. Add in the ability to write CDs and DVDs, as well as to label discs with LightScribe, and this is a well rounded Blu-ray burner. If you are in the market for a Blu-ray burner, the Hitachi/LG BH20L is worth considering.

Hitachi have recently launched their external XL3000 desktop HDDs; these come in elegantly shaped enclosures, with the possibility of mounting both horizontally and vertically, also with enough free space for most of us to store our favourite movies, photos, games and other data.
