SSD technology has hit like a hurricane leaving enterprise in awe of its potential yet leery of high cost for a storage medium still in its infancy. Todays business is reluctant to implement SSD storage for reasons that run the gamut from reliability and durability to long-term performance gain concerns. The inherent cost of slc drives is self defeating for a small business and time has yet to put its stamp of approval on mlc design.
One of the first challenges new SSD users face is whether to migrate the system in place or to consider a fresh OS installation where one might ‘start from scratch’. Our SSD analysis this week displays only the second consumer available SSD to hit the streets with eMLC 10,000 P/E rated memory. The KingSpec Challenger E3000s SSD is enterprise grade, LSI SandForce Driven, and relies on Intel eMLC memory. Unlike other SSDs tested to date, the E3000s was able to provide great low 4K random write performance of 112MB/s, surpassing that 100MB/s 4k random write plateau that has eluded so many others.
It has been a while since a new Kingston release has come along and our last Kingston SSD Review was an extremely favorable one examining the Kingston HyperX Enthusiast Class SSD. It earned our Editor’s Choice Award. In fact, I still use the very attractive HyperX mini-tool that came with that kit daily. Today, we are going to be evaluating Kingston’s newest release, the SSDNow 120GB V+200, an SSD that like it’s bigger brother, also contains the LSI SandForce SF-2281 processor.
