Western Digital recently released a 1TB SATA 2.5-inch notebook hard drive in their Scorpio Blue Series that uses the standard 9.5mm height. This means that you can now get a 1TB drive that will fit inside your laptop that offers amazing storage capacity. We have already seen one hybrid solid state drive solution in the Synapse Cache drive from OCZ. You pair it with your normal hard drive and it acts as a cache drive doing most of the work to speed things up. If you are familiar with OCZ’s RevoDrive series of drives you know they offer some of the fastest transfer speeds available on the consumer level when it comes to solid state drives. OCZ has decided to take this incredible speed put it together with their caching technology and brings us the RevoDrive Hybrid. I’ve taken a look at many external hard drive enclosures in my time, but none quite like the one I’ve got for review today. The Vantec NexStar Vault is an enclosure for a 2.5” SATA hard drive, but as the name might suggest, it makes your secure. The Vault does this by incorporating a numerical keypad into it, you must enter a six digit combination to access the drive. It’s much more than that tough, the Vault automatically formats your drive half public and half private, so the end user really just has to put the drive in and that’s it. It can’t get much easier than that really.
The Micron P420m, announced earlier this summer, is a half-height, half-length (HHHL) PCIe storage device that augments Micron’s PCIe enterprise storage line. The P420m has a lot to live up to.
